PS4 3.0 Update, Codename 'Kenshin,' Rolls Out Today
The newest software update of the PlayStation 4 rolled out on Wednesday. Codenamed "Kenshin," the 3.0 software update will reportedly bring in new gaming features to users.
"This update is focused on creating new ways to connect with friends and players around the world, expanding the social capabilities of the system even further," Vice President of Platforms Marketing at Sony Computer Entertainment America John Koller was quoted by Gadgets NDTV as saying.
A PlayStation blog post noted that the software update will feature an increased online storage capacity from 1GB to 10GB exclusive for all PS Plus members.
"PS4 owners will be able to livestream gameplay to YouTube. Livestreams will be viewable across YouTube, including on the new YouTube Gaming mobile app and website," added the blog post.
According to GameSpot, there is also an improvement on the Messages where players can easily communicate with the group of people they frequently play games with.
"Once you're added to or create a group, you'll see the online status for friends, what games they are playing, and the option to message or chat in party all in one spot. When you add or create a new favorite group, they'll appear in your Friends app under Favorite Groups for quick access," added the same report.
Aside from these highlights, the latest update will also bring a new hub for events, the ability to create communities, share video clips to Twitter and even stickers.
In a review, Kotaku mentioned that users encounter problems finding the right group in the communities feature.
"There's no search functionality, which means discoverability is a pain in the ass," added the same report noting that users would need to scroll through groups or find an existing PSN account.
The same report noted that this is not a great experience for the users since they still have to do a lot of things before they can belong to a group.
The game also reportedly still does not bring to the players what they have been asking for a long time.
"You can't change your name, there's no way to sort games into folders, wallpapers can't be designed and personalized by users, there's no way to filter out games that aren't installed anymore, and more," added Kotaku.
Meanwhile, Gadgets NDTV recommended PS4 users to wait for a few days and check out how the update will work for others.
It also said that this update will make the PS4 a good deal for those wanting to buy a gaming console.
