'Pitch Perfect 3' Cast, Auditions & Release Date: Movie Takes 'Pacific Rim 2' Release Date
The production time for "Pitch Perfect 3" is extended by two weeks after Universal Pictures decided to take the "Pacific Rim 2" release date, giving the cast and crew of the hit a cappella movie more production time.
According to Deadline, the third installment to the famous musical movie has been moved to the August 4, 2017 release date from its original July 21, 2017 debut, in effect, taking over the spot set for Legendary's the second "Pacific Rim" movie.
The a cappella-based flick, says the outlet, has yet to be opposed in its genre by any entry after "Pitch Perfect 2" became a surprise box office hit this summer with a staggering $69.2 million ticket sales during its opening, making it the highest-grossing movie musical opening of all time, Play Bill reported.
After opening with a bang, the film also earned massive final international gross sales of $285.2 million after an extended stay in theaters worldwide.
Featured in the film is an all-female college a cappella group called "The Barden Bellas" where Beca, played by Anna Kendrick, is a member.
Elizabeth Banks' behind-the-camera role as a director has yet to be confirmed though she would definitely be involved in the movie considering how she made it a global hit after helming PP2.
"We are hard at work on figuring out what the next chapter for the Barden Bellas is going to be. They're gonna sing, they're gonna dance, and they're gonna be funny ... I don't want to give anything away!" she told Entertainment Weekly.
"Pitch Perfect 3" would be co-produced by Paul Brooks of Gold Circle Entertainment, Max Handelman and Scott Niemeyer.
Reprising in PP3 are PP2 stars Hailee Steinfeld as Emily, also known as "the Barden Bella legacy," Brittany Snow who plays Chloe, one of the Bellas senior members, as well as Rebel Wilson who plays the quirky "Fat Amy."
Another uncertainty in the third movie is its villain which, Bustle reports, would most probably be the same German a cappella group the Bellas bumped into 2015's "Pitch Perfect 2": Das Sound Machine.
According to the report, one of the actors who played the German military-themed choir admitted to wanting to reprise his role in PP3.
"I hope very hard that Das Sound Machine shall return to Pitch Perfect 3, Pitch Perfect 3.14159, which I have called Pitch Perfect Pi, and all the other Pitch Perfects," DSM breakout star Pieter Krämer reportedly told Perez Hilton as cited by Bustle.
