Cristiano Ronaldo Surpasses 500-Goal Mark in Real Madrid's Victory Match Against Malmo
Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo made a record on the number of goals he made in his career on Wednesday as his team trumped Malmo FF.
Chron said Ronaldo surpassed his 500-goal mark and is now the leading scorer of the club. It added that his 500th and 501st clearly took him above the mark of Raul who contributed 323 to the Spanish club.
But the UEFA said the two players are still on the same level.
"I'm very happy. First of all, because the team won. But I won't lie to you. I really wanted to beat Raul's record," Ronaldo said adding that he received a congratulatory message from Raul, who is now playing for the New York Cosmos.
He also added in the Daily Mail report that despite winning, he is already preparing for the next game this coming weekend.
"I'm thinking about the next game, I'll sleep happy tonight. But Sunday we have another game, another derby [Atletico on Sunday] against a fantastic team and we should win. So I'm happy today -- great for Real Madrid, great for me, great for the club," he added.
According to Daily Mail, 230 of his goals come in La Liga with Sevilla as his favorite opponent since he scored 21 goals during matches against them.
"He has also netted 417 strikes inside the box -- highlighting his predator prowess - while 81 of those have come from the penalty spot," added Daily Mail.
Real Madrid head coach Rafael Benitez said he was pleased with his team's recent victory, according to The Guardian.
"I think that to win away, to get three points, a clean sheet and two goals from Ronaldo, another record, I have to be really pleased," Benitez added.
The team was still successful in sealing a win despite missing players like Gareth Bale, James Rodríguez, Sergio Ramos and Pepe because of injuries. Marcelo and Luke Modric were also not included in the starting lineup of the team.
Talking about Ronaldo, the Real Madrid coach commended his star player's skills and potential.
"Hopefully, he has no limits. I said he was unquestionable in the past and his merit is what he has done in far less time than the rest. That adds more value to what he has achieved," Benitez added.
He also claimed that they performed better compared to their match versus Malaga.
"We had 75 percent possession. We could have avoided some occasions where we gave the ball away, but those are the words of a coach that will never be happy. They started to press high and sent a lot of long balls," the coach noted.
