Samsung Gear S2 & S2 Classic Release Date, Review & Price: Smartwatch to Hit US Stores Friday
Starting Friday, the Samsung Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic will be made available on the US market and these are expected to cost cheaper than the Apple Watch.
TechRadar said the Samsung smartwatches will be available Oct. 2 on the Samsung website, Amazon, Best Buy and Macy's.
It also noted that the Gear S2 costs $299 while the smaller but dressier S2 Classic has a $349.99 price tag.
It was added by Droid-Life that the two smartwatches will sport a round design and are "the best looking Samsung watches to date."
"The regular Gear S2 sports a cleaner, more minimal aesthetic while the Classic attempts to emulate a traditional timepiece. Both look quite nice," added the same report.
The two watches will reportedly have a rotating bezel that will allow users to easily navigate through applications.
"One of the biggest highlights of the Gear S2 is the rotating bezel, a feature so simple and so necessary it could serve as a turning point in smart watch navigation. Moving beyond the bad pun, it could be akin to the iPod's scroll wheel," added TechTimes.
In a review, The Verge detailed that the rotating bezel of the watch has a great use for smartwatch aficionados.
"Samsung has basically added a free control dial to its watch, which dramatically improves usability," added the same report.
It also highlighted that the rotating bezel is perfect since it has the "right amount of resistance" for scrolling applications.
Revealed at the IFA 2015 in Berlin, the Samsung Gear S2 also has a dual-core, 1 GHz clock, 4GB storage space and 512GB RAM. Other useful features of the smartwatch are the accelerometer, ambient light sensor, barometer, gyroscope and heart rate sensors.
In addition, the Gear S2 will have its own SIM card, enabling users of the device to call without using a mobile phone, as per iOL Mobile.
Ars Technica added that this 3G version of the watch will also allow users to "access certain apps without the need to tether your smartphone."
It added that the 3G watch, as well as the non-3G version, will have features like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1 and NFC, which can be used for Samsung Pay.
TechTimes said many users would love using this watch because it can last for 2 days without recharging and there is also an option to charges it "wirelessly."
According to The Verge, the upcoming smartwatches will run the Android 4.4 for better performance of the device.
These watches are much anticipated by Samsung fans as they are eager to know how it has improved from the previous release.
