Android Marshmallow 6.0 Release Date, Update & Review: 5 Awesome New Features From Google’s Latest OS
Google recently announced that Android Marshmallow 6.0 will be available this October, reports Trusted Reviews. Below is a list of the top features included in Google's new OS.
#1: Case-By-Case App Permissions
Marshmallow 6.0 users will be able to control the amount of access an app has over certain aspects of their phones, like the camera, message history or even location.
The Verge explains that prior to Marshmallow, apps asked users, during installation, for permission to access anything on their phones that the app might need in the future. However, sometimes apps would gain access to certain aspects of the phone that it really did not need, like a dictionary app having access to a user's location
With Marshmallow, apps will ask for access on a case-to-case basis. For instance, when you open the Instagram app, a notice will pop-up asking if the app can access your camera specifically and nothing else.
#2: Now On Tap
This feature is basically a refined version of Google Now, explains The Verge. It allows users to search for anything without having to exit the current app they are using.
To use Now On Tap, simply press and hold the home button on your mobile device. The feature will scan the screen and find key words that the user might want information on, like a location or event.
For example, if your friend mentioned a new song by Beyonce via text and you want to know more about it, simply press the home button. Now On Tap will register Beyoncé's name and even the title of the song, if your friend texted it.
#3: Android Pay
According to Trusted reviews, Google has revamped its own mobile payment service with Marshmallow 6.0. Android Pay will allow users to pay for merchandise at stores with NFC terminals.
Each user will have a virtual account number, which can be used in over 700,000 stores in the United States. The feature also works with credit and debit cards like Mastercard.
#4: Standardized Fingerprint Support
Google has included standardized fingerprint technology to Marshmallow 6.0, so that individual phone companies do not have to create their own fingerprint system. The company has opened all the necessary APIs so that developers can add fingerprint support to any app.
This feature will also serve as a security measure for Android Pay, as biometric authentication will be needed to authorize payments.
#5: Doze
Google introduced this new feature with Marshmallow to help conserve power on Android devices. Trusted Review explains that Doze will recognize when a device is at rest and will save power by using fewer background services.
