HTC One Android Update Release Date: Which Models Have What and When to Expect KitKat
It can be hard to keep track of when an Android update will land on your phone sometimes given all the different variants and releases — here's what's going on with HTC Ones.
Most HTC Ones are currently up to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, which isn't the latest version of Android (that would be Android 4.4.2 KitKat). International variants along with carrier-tied models in the United States have all received Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. The only difference between the two is that U.S. models did not receive Sense 5.5, the latest version of HTC's user interface, with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean whereas international models did. Sense 5.5 is supposed to land Stateside in a later update, presumably with Android 4.4 KitKat.
Speaking of Android 4.4 KitKat, the upgrade is tentatively scheduled to land on all U.S. HTC Ones by the end of January 2014. HTC has repeatedly stated this is an important goal to reach, and has even said Verizon models wouldn't be left out (Verizon HTC Ones received Android 4.3 Jelly Bean almost one month later than other carrier models due to technical issues, leading many to initially speculate KitKat would also be delayed).
Some HTC One models are already running Android 4.4 KitKat, however. The HTC One Google Play edition, developer edition, and unlocked editions have all received an official Android 4.4 KitKat upgrade already, with the Google Play edition running Android 4.4.2 KitKat right alongside Google Nexus devices.
