Former Miss USA Ali Landry's In-Law Relatives Found Dead in Mexico After Kidnapping
Former Miss USA Ali Landry's father-in-law and brother-in-law were found dead in Veracruz, Mexico on Saturday two weeks after they were reportedly kidnapped from their home in Tamaulipas.
Juan Manuel Gómez Fernéndez and his son, Juan Manuel Gómez Monteverde, suffered traumatic brain injuries and was said to have been dead for a number of days when their bodies were discovered, Veracruz state prosecutor Luis Angel Bravo Contreras told People. The father-and-son's bodies were found in El Chachalaco, a rural area located in the municipality of Pueblo Viejo in northern Veracruz.
"Family members have positively identified the victims as the father and brother of filmmaker Alejandro Gómez Monteverde, Landry's husband and the acclaimed director of 'Little Boy,' the statement confirms," People further reported.
According to Latin Times, the victims were reported missing from their homes on Sept. 4. Their disappearance was previously filed with Mexico's federal special prosecutor for organized crime investigations, SEIDO, in the nation's capital.
Latin Times wrote that Juan Manuel was a part owner at "La Pecerita," formerly known as "El Callejón de los Milagros," in Tampico, Tamaulipas, a restaurant that allegedly reported drug cartel business in the past. Tamaulipas and northern Veracruz are both areas with high levels of crime made by drug cartel members.
Televisa news anchor Carlos Loret de Mola said that a ransom was paid for the release of the victims but the kidnappers didn't adhere to the agreement. No additional details were revealed about the crime, Latin Times wrote.
The Veracruz Attorney General's Office, as translated by People, said that they are investigating the deaths alongside authorities in Tamaulipas. Police officials are currently making forensic testing on a car believed to be used by the kidnappers.
Neither Landry, 42, nor Monteverde, 38, commented on the incident, but Eduardo Verastegui, the producer who worked with Monteverde on this year's "Little Boy," expressed his condolences on Twitter.
"With a heart full of pain and sadness, I ask for prayers for my friend and 'compadre' Alejandro Gomez Monteverde and all his family. My deepest condolences to my soul brother, I love you so much 'compadre,' I put my heart in your hands and I join you in this deep pain," he wrote, as translated by Latin Times.
Earlier this year, Monteverde shared a sweet Instagram post featuring him and his father. The post translates to: "Celebrating in San Miguel de Allende, with my best friend, my life mentor, the wisest man I know. My father."
Landry was crowned Miss USA in 1996, People wrote. In 2006, she married Monteverde and had three children with him: Estela Inez, 8, Marcelo Alejandro, 3, and Valentin Francesco, 2.
