NBA Icon Larry Johnson Gives Orange County House to Baby Mama! Here's Why

Ex-NBA icon Larry Johnson was in hot water after he was reportedly behind child support payments with former Los Angeles model Laura Tate so he was forced to surrender his house.

TMZ exclusively reported that Tate filed documents claiming that the former New York Knicks and New Orleans Hornets player was not able to give her a total $900,000 for their now 18-year-old child, Taylor.

"She wanted the court to liquidate his assets so she could get paid, but we've learned Johnson hammered out a deal with her," added the same report.

It was also noted in the TMZ report that Johnson agreed to hand over his home in Orange County, California which is worth $800,000. In addition, the former NBA player was also asked to pay Tate $55,000. "He's scheduled to make $1,500 monthly payments," TMZ added.

According to Black Sports Online, Johnson already filed for bankruptcy last March claiming that his debt was caused mostly by child support payments.

Tate also earlier claimed that Johnson was only able to give her $1,000 in child support when he should be giving her more than $11,000.

"Tate wants the judge to liquidate LJ's assets so she can collect $870k. She's also got beef because she says some of the other baby mamas are getting more than her," added the same report.

A 1997 report of the New York Daily News noted that Tate revealed that Johnson wanted her to have the baby aborted when he learned about her pregnancy.

"Their relationship lasted for 14 months prior to November 1996. He would call her up when he came to town, and he would invite her to New York and other places," said Tate's lawyer, Harold Becks.

Becks even claimed that Johnson gave Tate $5,000 for the procedure since Johnson was then married to Celeste Wingfield and had three children.

"She's Catholic, and she told him she can't do that," Becks added in the New York Daily News report.

Meanwhile, court documents disclosed that that their child, Taylor was born in August 2, 1997 with Tate immediately asking the former NBA star child support.

"She further requested sole custody of Taylor and that Johnson not be granted visitation," read the court case decided in 1998.

It added that Johnson "admitted paternity" and agreed to the custody and visitation orders set by Tate.

During that time, the former NBA player said that he can support the child since his annual income was more than $1 million.

"In December 1997, a pendente lite child support order was entered in the amount of $8,850 per month, with an additional $2,500 per month for a nanny," added the court documents.
