Beyonce Goes on a Shopping Trip to Walmart, Hands Out 750 $50 Gift Cards
Walmart shoppers in Massachusetts got the surprise of a lifetime Friday evening when they were greeted by mega star Beyonce.
Not only did Queen Bey decide to shock Christmas shoppers with an impromptu trip to the store in Tewksbury, but she also showed her holiday spirit by giving out $50 Walmart gift cards to everyone in the store. In total, the 32-year-old songstress dished out $37,500 on 750 gift cards which were enclosed in envelops that read "Happy Holidays from Beyoncé," reports Us Weekly.
The "Single Ladies" singer was photographed pushing a cart and shopping through the store where she picked up a copy of her new self-titled CD, which was released last week without any warning or marketing.
"Beyonce just hit up wal mart and purchased everyone in the store $50 gift cards. Beyonce for president," a shopper wrote along with a pic posted on Instagram.
Her grand gesture comes a few days after Walmart's competitor, Target, released a statement saying they wouldn't carry a hard copy of her new album in stores.
"At Target we focus on offering our guests a wide assortment of physical CDs, and when a new album is available digitally before it is available physically, it impacts demand and sales projections," Target spokesperson Erica Julkowski said in a statement to E! News.
She continued writing, "While there are many aspects that contribute to our approach and we have appreciated partnering with Beyonce in the past, we are primarily focused on offering CDs that will be available in a physical format at the same time as all other formats. At this time, Target will not be carrying Beyonce's new self-titled album 'Beyonce.'"
Walmart, however, said they would sell her album in their stores. As a result, their customers have benefited from that in more ways than one.
