'Twilight' 10th Anniversary: Here's What to Expect in New Edition's Bonus Content
It's been ten years since the vampires, werewolves, and unsettlingly pale Bella Swann were first introduced to readers in Stephenie Meyer's "Twilight" saga. To celebrate, a fan conference was held over the weekend in Forks, Washington -- the real town made famous by the stories.
"It's amazing to me that ten years have passed since 'Twilight' was first published. For me, this anniversary is a celebration of the fans, with all of their incredible passion and dedication. I'm excited to get to spend time with them again," Meyer said in a statement.
At the event, Meyer announced that there will be a new edition of the book that will be released in October. This is hardly unexpected. According to the Los Angeles Times, all four books in the series, as well as "The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner: An Eclipse Novella" and "The Twilight Saga: The Official Illustrated Guide" have sold almost 155 million copies worldwide.
The new edition, published by Little, Brown Books For Young Readers will feature bonus content, however specifics have not been disclosed. MTV has a few ideas, though. Among the new content could be Edward Cullen's perspective -- Meyer never finished that book and the project was said to be on hold "indefinitely", so who knows, a few chapters could appear in the new edition.
Other ideas include a short history between Charlie and Renee Swan or some deleted scenes that could have been cut out in the editorial process.
"I felt the same thrill reading this special anniversary edition as I did when I read the manuscript a decade ago. I'm pleased we have this opportunity for devoted fans to relive the extraordinary Twilight experience, as well as for a new generation of readers to discover it for the very first time," Megan Tingley, executive vice president and publisher, said.
Considering that this will be a big "Twilight" birthday, MTV also noted that to help promote the release, Meyer will be attending the New York Comic Con on October 8 for an event and autographing session. She is also set to speak with MTV News' Josh Horowitz for a special "After Hours" episode devoted to the vampire series.
The new edition "Twilight" with bonus content will be released on October 6 (incidentally on the same release date of the new illustrated version "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone), with the paperback version released a few weeks later on October 27.
