Samsung Galaxy S7 to be an iPhone 6s Killer? [Release Date, Specs, Features & Rumors]
The Samsung Galaxy S7 is said to have features and specs that are not found in Apple's iPhone 6S.
Samsung's recent release of the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Plus came with favorable reviews, and now there are hearsays that the tech giant is upping their game with the upcoming Galaxy S7, Yibada wrote.
Listed below are the rumored specs of the Galaxy S7. Remember that these are all currently unconfirmed and Samsung is yet to issue an official statement.
Design & Display
G for Games reported that the Galaxy S7 will come in with a phablet-like size of 5.7 inches, which is an improvement over its predecessor's 5.1-inch size.
A report from a Korean publication Asia Today contradicted G for Games' report, saying that the Galaxy S7 will have two size variants: a 5.2-inch version and one with 5.8-inch screen, iDigitalTimes translated.
Camera, Processor, & Other Specs
The Galaxy S7 is said to be equipped with a dual camera set-up, a tech already present in the HTC One M8 and Huawei Honor 6 Plus, Softpedia wrote.
G for Games added that Samsung's next flagship smartphone will come with variants in two hardware configurations: one powered by the Snapdragon 820, and the other variant by the rumored Exynos M1 SoC. However, the news outlet noted that "the ratio between the two models will strongly favor the Exynos M1 variant, which will allegedly receive the lion's share."
"We have to use the best engines to make our products competitive, which is why we opted to use our own chips," said JK Shin, head of Samsung Mobile, as quoted by PC Advisor. "But we may very well end up using products from Qualcomm again in the next Galaxy phone."
SamMobile reported that the Galaxy S7 is being developed under the internal codename "Project Lucky" and is listed under Geekbench's database as "LUCKY-LTE." Sources of the news outlet claimed that the company is testing its UFS 2.0 storage, but they could also be working on SD cards. The UFS 2.0 storage and the SD card's memory controllers are not compatible with each other, so Samsung might be doing a toss-up between the two.
Additionally, Samsung is said to be testing a new 20-megapixel ISOCELL camera on the Galaxy S7, as well as a project called the "all lens cover," SamMobile wrote.
Release Date & Price
As for its release date, users won't have to wait until MWC 2015 in early March for the Galaxy S7 to be announced. G for Games wrote that the handset could be unveiled as early as February 2016. PC Advisor estimated that the Galaxy S7 will be priced around $1014.
