Samsung Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat Release Date Late January/Early February, Says Carrier
If one French carrier is correct, then Samsung Galaxy S4 owners and Samsung Galaxy Note 3 owners will be pleased to know that Android 4.4 KitKat could begin landing on the handsets late January/early February 2014.
French carrier SFR revealed the release dates in a recent blog post telling customers on its network when to expect the newest version of Android.
"The update to Android 4.4 (Kit Kat) should be available between late January and early February 2014 for Samsung Galaxy S4 and SFR Galaxy Note 3 SFR," SFR announced.
This is the first official news regarding Android 4.4 KitKat for the Samsung Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3. SFR has a history of making announcements ahead of time regarding Android updates, and it's important to note that many of them fall flat. Still, the time frame mentioned seems to gel with previous whispers about the upgrade.
This date, of course, only applies to SFR-tied Galaxy S4s and Galaxy Note 3s. International unlocked models will most likely be the first recipients of the Android 4.4 KitKat update, with carrier-tied variants following soon after. For those in the United States with carrier-tied Galaxy S4s and Galaxy Note 3s, the wait will most likely be much longer — Galaxy S4s on major networks just recently received a bump to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean for full Galaxy Gear connectivity.
