Ellen DeGeneres Surprised With Caitlyn Jenner's Outlook on Gay Marriage
Ever since she made the transition from Bruce to Cait, Caitilyn Jenner has advocated for the transgender community, especially the teens. For someone who is trying to send a message of support for LGBTQ groups, however, you would be surprised to know that she's not all that into equal rights to marriage.
You're not the only one who's surprised. Ellen DeGeneres is too, which became apparent in her show when Jenner sat down with her for the premiere of the new season of "Ellen". During the daytime show, Jenner proclaimed that she's a traditionalist as far as gay marriage is concerned, but that she doesn't want to "stand in front of anybody's happiness".
"If that word 'marriage' is really, really that important to you, I can go with it," she added.
On Tuesday, Ellen discussed the confusing stance with Howard Stern, as reported by Billboard. DeGeneres said about Jenner, "She still has a judgment about gay marriage. And I said, 'You're wanting people to understand and accept you ... and you still have a judgment about gay people and marriage.'"
Stern had to wrap his head about Jenner's opinion as well, saying, "Here's a person on TV crying, 'I want to be myself, I want to be genuine, I don't want people to ridicule me' and then says in the same breath, 'Gee, gay marriage, I don't get it,'" Stern said.
"It's remarkable," he noted.
However, Ellen noted that she had a great interview with Jenner, questionable stances aside. "I don't really know her, and I'm trying to understand it because I don't fully understand it either, but I also want everyone to be happy."
She declared, "But I don't fully understand all of that, but I want her to be happy, which is what I want for her for me."
The Wrap mentioned that Jenner's stand on the matter is highly peculiar. So peculiar in fact, that for someone lobbying for the LGBTQ community, she has similar opinions with Kim Davis.
In case you don't know, Davis is the Kentucky county clerk who was jailed for contempt of court when she refused to issue marriage licenses to gay couples -- a decision that even Donald Trump does not agree to. The Republican presidential hopeful noted of Davis's actions, Whether you like the decision or not ... you have to go along with the Supreme Court."
What do you think of Caitlyn Jenner's surprising "traditionalist" views?
