'On Two Fronts: Latinos & Vietnam' Movie Trailer: Events, Screenings & What to Expect
"On Two Fronts: Latinos & Vietnam" is a film that focused heavily on the Vietnam War, but it is a project that also resonates with today's issues.
The documentary captures the Latino experience during a war that significantly impacted the working class youth, ontwofrontsmovie.com wrote. Memoirs of two siblings, Everett and Delia Alvarez, and their opposing sides during the war were also featured. One was a POW and the other protested in their home country.
"On Two Fronts" premiered on PBS during Hispanic Heritage Month on Sept. 2, Zap2It reported. The program was produced by Souvenir Pictures Inc. and is a presentation of Oregon Public Broadcasting in association with Latino Public Broadcasting. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting majorly provided the project's funds.
The documentary was filmed throughout the Southwest and in Vietnam through a combination of "lush photography" with "home movies, vivid news footage and a trove of personal photograph," the project's official site noted. Chicano Batman composed music for the production.
Also featured in the film are firsthand accounts from Latino veterans and their families, as well as commentaries from historians, social activists, and other experts. The war was a difficult burden to regions where the Latino populace could do nothing but provide service. Producer Mylène Moreno said that the film asks difficult questions about the "price of war and citizenship," Zap2It reported.
Aside from these, the documentary highlighted the extensive legacy of military service and the "controversy and changing attitudes amid the growing Chicano anti-war movement," Zap2It added.
"This absorbing new film gives viewers a fresh new perspective on the significant role played by Latino Americans during a defining moment in our nation's history, and offers extraordinary insights into how this diverse group helped shape events during that turbulent time," said OPB's Dave Davis, as reported by Zap2It.
