Demi Lovato Talks About Late Father & Iggy Azalea Collaboration in 'Confident' Song 'Kingdom Come'
Demi Lovato is in the middle of promoting her upcoming fifth studio album "Confident."
The 23-year-old singer has talked plenty about her new music, which she claims will represent who she really is a person and as an artist. "Father," one of the record's tracks, will feature Lovato being honest about her estranged father, who died from cancer in 2013.
According to Lovato, the song was the last one she recorded in "Confident," ET reported.
"I get very, very honest about the passing of my dad," Lovato revealed, as quoted by ET. "My fans expect me to be honest, [but] what I think that people in general aren't going to expect is the way that I sing the song. I took it more to a soulful, gospel kind of sound, and it's the song that I think I might be most proud of on the album."
"Confident" is set to be released in October, the news outlet wrote. The full track listing and the album cover was unveiled on the recording artist's Instagram page.
When asked about the record's title, Lovato said that the album aims to represent the shape she is in today. "I've never been more confident in my life and it was the perfect album title," she added, as reported by ET.
"Confident" will also feature Lovato's collaboration with one of her best pals, rapper Iggy Azalea, on the track "Kingdom Come." In an interview with MTV News, Lovato recounted how Azalea agreed to do the song even before hearing what it sounded like. And despite of the blind recording, the collaboration had results that "fit perfectly" into the song's entire vibe.
Lovato added that Azalea "really meshed well" in "Kingdom Come" and it felt like the "Fancy" rapper was destined to be a part of the track, Billboard reported.
"I wanted [Iggy] to be on this album from the first time that I heard that song, even before we knew each other," the "Cool for the Summer" singer told Billboard. "And then we became good friends, and so it was kind of a situation where it was like, we have to work together."
Lovato swears that the whole vibe of "Confident" will put her beside Rihanna and Nicki Minaj in the pop industry.
"There are a lot of girls in pop," she said in her interview with Cosmopolitan, as quoted by Entertainment Weekly. "They have badass lyrics, but I feel like I'm the only person other than Rihanna and Nicki Minaj who isn't afraid to say, 'Try something on me and I'll f-king beat your ass.' There are people who can dress up and play the part, but their music doesn't say it."
