'Captain America: Civil War' Trailer, Cast & Spoilers: Hulk Never Returning?
Fans of the Hulk may wait a little bit longer before getting another chance to bask in his presence as Mark Ruffalo reveals the real score on whether or not his character would appear in "Captain America: Civil War."
In an interview with Bad Taste during the Venice Film Festival, Ruffalo explained that the original script for the movie included the Hulk but the studio's plans have changed.
"I thought that I would be in the film, but eventually, [the studio] believes that revealing what happened to the Hulk is something too big, and Marvel wants to use this information later," he told the Italian outlet.
The film which would see the Avengers divided into two teams led by Chris Evans' Captain America and Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man because of a new government law created after the battle featured in the "Avengers: Age of Ultron" led to massive collateral damage, ComingSoon.net explained.
"My character had been inserted in the script, but then it was taken away. Who knows, maybe Hulk will never return. However, they want to keep the revelation of what happened [to Hulk] a secret, because it is something really big," he continued, referring to Hulk's disappearance during the conclusion of the 2015 MCU film "Avengers: Age of Ultron."
This "big thing" happening, Comic Vine speculates, may be a new stand-alone film for the green-skinned monster based on a popular comic book storyline.
This story known as "Planet Hulk" involves the green goliath crashing into an alien planet and inadvertently becomes its king after defeating its tyrannical ruler.
According to a plot summary posted by the outlet, a group of MCU geniuses called the Illuminati (Tony Stark, Black Bolt, Reed Richards, Namor and Dr. Stephen Strange) discusses the destruction caused by Hulk and how to deal with him.
The group then decides to "deposit" the Avengers member to a peaceful uninhabited planet.
But the entire process was later interrupted by a wormhole, leaving the Hulk to fend off on his own on the violent planet Sakaar where he becomes one of the warriors that have to battle in a gladiator arena.
There, he becomes an enemy of the Red King whom he later defeats, leaving him the title of the "savior of the people."
Coincidentally, the then-savage Hulk finds a "kindred spirit" and falls in love with fellow warrior Caiera who later becomes his queen after he is crowned king of Sakaar.
The peace he brought, however, did not last too long as the story then leads to the massively destructive "World War Hulk."
