Minecraft News: Xbox 360 Version of Game Getting Marvel Avengers DLC
Minecraft owners who have been waiting to recreate their favorite scenes from Marvel movies and comic books are in luck. The latest batch of DLC for the game will introduce almost three dozen Marvel character skins to the game so that players can dress up as their favorite superheros and villains.
The Avengers Skin Pack will cost $2.99 and be exclusive to the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft, according to IGN. Players will be able to play as 35 different Marvel characters, such as Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Nick Fury, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Loki, Wasp, Falcon, Vision, Maria Hill, Spider Woman, War Machine, and Agent Coulson. No additional details about the DLC were released by Microsoft, but in the promotional picture, the Stark tower has been recreated in Minecraft and several heroes are seen hanging around New York City as a fire blazes in the background. No specific release date for the Avengers Skin Pack was announced, but Microsoft claimed that the DLC will be available "very soon."
This is not the first tie-in DLC between Minecraft and a popular franchise. The first instance of Minecraft crossing over with another franchise was when the Mass Effect DLC was released, which offered players the chance to use a Commander Sheppard skin along with textures mimicking materials from the series. After that DLC was released, a new pack contained many different elements from The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. This included new skins, textures, and even music from the popular RPG. Now, with the Avengers Skin Pack users can create a giant mash up of pop-culture icons all within the world of Minecraft.
Minecraft is one of the biggest indie games of all time. The game has managed to sell 13 million units on the PC and 10 million units on the Xbox 360. These figures alone make it one of the biggest success stories in gaming, but Minecraft is getting ready to expand further. A version of the game is coming both to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 sometime in the future, which will allow next-gen gamers to enjoy the open-world sandbox game on their new consoles. However, it is unclear what sort of changes or improvements, if any, will be coming to the new versions of Minecraft on these systems.
