Top 5 Hidden Gem Games of 2013
The year 2013 is almost completed, and while there have been plenty of great blockbuster titles released this year, such as Grand Theft Auto 5, Assassin's Creed 4 and Call of Duty: Ghosts, there have been just as many impressive lesser-known games you might have overlooked. Here are our picks for the top five diamond in the rough video games released this year.
5. Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons - This game is a puzzle game that requires users to control both characters with one analog stick. This leads to some interesting and satisfying levels that players can conquer. But the real appeal of the game is a moving story and fantastic artwork that really sucks fans in and leaves a lasting impression.
4. Papers, Please - This game not only acts as a form of social commentary, but is also very interesting to play. Players must play a border patrol agent for a Eastern European country, and players will eventually be forced to make tough decisions. Players can end up trying to help more sympathetic characters, or they can be ruthless and crack down on people as immigration restrictions get tighter in the game. Papers, Please is a game that everyone should check out and play.
3. Tearaway - If this game was released for the PlayStation 3 or 4 instead of the Vita, this game would be much more popular than it currently is. The game is far and away the best game available on the handheld, and offers a crazy and unique world for players to explore and play around in. If Vita owners do not already own the game they are doing a great disservice to themselves.
2. Cloudberry Kingdom - This game mimics old school 2-D platforms, and is just as hard as those classic games were back in the day. Players will feel like they are running through the levels themselves as they get worked up trying to complete the levels. The game will make players feel like an idiot when they fail and invincible when they succeed.
1. Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch - Easily one of the best games of 2013, this RPG manages to combine some of the best visuals in gaming with an engaging story and fun characters. The game plays like a mix of Pokémon and a real time RPG, and is worth seeking out.
