Sugar Shane Mosley vs Ricardo Mayorga Rematch Will Happen! Judge Denies Promoter Don King's Request
The rematch between Sugar Shane Mosley and Ricardo Mayorga is still on after a judge denied the injunction request of promoter Don King who claimed the fight could not continue.
CBS Local reported federal Judge Kathleen Williams did not grant King's request, which said that the Mosley and Mayorga's rematch should not happen since the latter is still under exclusive contract with him.
But Mayorga has already disputed this claim, saying that the contract is not binding since his signature was only forged by the promoter.
In ruling against King, Williams said that this fight with Mosley will not affect Mayorga's career since it is already ending.
"The undisputed evidence is that Mayorga is not ranked, that he is not at the peak of his physical capabilities and that whether he will participate in any future bouts is purely speculative," Williams wrote in her decision.
Earlier, Mosley expressed concern if the fight with Mayorga will push through as scheduled this Saturday (Aug. 29) or if he needed to look for a replacement.
"The fight's going to go on whether it be with Mayorga or somebody that's just as equal as him. I'm going to be fighting regardless. Don King or anybody isn't going to stop me from doing my show," Mosley earlier told Fox Sports.
He also claimed that there is a deeper reason why King wants to stop the fight, not merely due to contract issues.
"A lot of times a promoter will sue for their portion of the money. They won't want to stop the fight," Mosley said.
He also claimed that he thinks there is something wrong even with the locality where the case was filed.
"There's a lot of foul play being done even for the thing to go to Miami and fought in Miami as far as the court's concerned, and the documents clearly say it's supposed to be fought in New York in this dispute," Mosely told Fox news.
"Why is it happening? Or it should be in California where the fight's taking place. Why are we going to Miami to talk about this case when it has no jurisdiction?"
Washington Post said that since the fight will continue this coming weekend, both fighters will try to outclass each other.
However, the same report claimed that their fight is not really attracting enough attention.
It added that this could have been the reason for the weird press conference they had on Tuesday.
"Mosley's girlfriend, Trista Pisani, bent over near Mayorga, who proceeded to give her rear a slap," added Washington Post.
Many believe that the incident was "staged" since both reportedly are desperate for another payday in their ending careers.
