Super Smash Bros. 4 News: New Character Announced for Roster Before 2014 Release Date [Trailer]
For the first time since Nintendo revealed the first dozen fighters for Super Smash Bros. 4 at E3 2013, a completely new fighter for the series has been announced: Rosalina, the princess character found in Super Mario Galaxy Wii.
And she isn't alone. On Nintendo's official website, Rosalina is listed as part of a team with Luma, and in the new trailer released for the game the characters are seen working together as a single character. In the trailer, Rosalina is seen using Luma almost like an avatar, as the little fighter can dish out some physical moves while Rosalina stands in the background. However, this does not make Rosalina like the Pokemon Trainer who cannot get involved in the battles, as she too is capable of taking out foes. Players will be able to juggle opponents between the two and unleash deadly combos on foes who get caught up in their traps.
Rosalina is a nice addition to the game, but is not particularly surprising for some fans. Earlier, it was announced that a stage based on Super Mario Galaxy would be included in the game, hinting at the arrival of Rosalina. In addition, Rosalina has appeared in other Mario games recently such as Super Mario 3D World and the latest two Mario Kart games in that series. In all those games Rosalina was a playable character, so it appears Nintendo is committed to their newest princess along with old favorites such as Peach and Daisy.
Another interesting tidbit potentially leaked by the trailer for Rosalina and Luma's entrance into Super Smash Bros. 4 is the possibility that Rainbow Road, the legendary track from the Mario Kart series, may be in the game as well. While Nintendo has not confirmed Rainbow Road, it would be a fun addition to the game's roster of stages. After all, Nintendo has used race tracks from the F-Zero series as stages in past Super Smash Bros. games, so something similar for the new game is not out of the realm of possibility.
In any case, with Rosalina and Luma confirmed for the game that makes 19 playable characters confirmed for Super Smash Bros. 4. The game was rumored to have a spring 2014 release date, but Nintendo shot down that rumor and will only state that the game is projected to launch in 2014.
