'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Pictures Leaked? Episode 7 Spoilers, Trailer, Cast & Release Date
Photos of the Knights of Ren leaked online have seemingly spoiled some details about the mysterious "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" villain Kylo Ren played by Adam Driver.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Director J.J. Abrams revealed that the person behind the mask, "This is Where I Leave" actor Driver, had acquired his name for joining the mysterious group.
According to the report, Kylo Ren was allied with the remaining members of The First Order Empire who continue to threaten the galaxy with the help of stormtroopers.
Abrams further explained thaf Kylo Ren seems obsessed with the infamous Darth Vader even if the dark lord was vanquished even before his birth.
"The movie explains the origins of the mask and where it's from, but the design was meant to be a nod to the Vader mask. [Ren] is well aware of what's come before, and that's very much a part of the story of the film," Abrams explained.
This, and the fact that he would be wielding a sparking red lightsaber that he built "as dangerous and as fierce and as ragged" as himself, seemed to add credence to the photos the Indie Revolver got hold of.
Last week, the outlet posted concept art that the site claimed to be "refined versions of Kylo Ren," particularly because the suit and the mask looks like an amalgam of Darth Vader.
Entertainment Weekly also reported that the villain seemed to echo a couple of things from the original in him, including Luke Skywalker's origins, except they come from opposite sides of the spectrum.
"As you see in the best of storytelling, and no doubt the best of Star Wars, these are tales in which an everyperson has to step up. And I think that what makes Ren so unique is that he isn't as fully formed as when we meet a character such as Darth Vader," Abrams explained further.
He added that he has always believed that there are two sides of the 'Force.'
"Both sides, arguably, would see themselves as the hero of their story, and I think that applies here," he added.
But, as expected, Abrams' revelations seem to unveil more questions than answers.
Kylo Ren's true identity still seems to become vaguer after the director revealed that he only got his name from joining the Knights of Ren.
"He is a character who came to the name Kylo Ren when he joined a group called the Knights of Ren," he revealed.
Abrams added that Ren is not the "prototypical mustache-twirling" villain you would expect.
