Eva Longoria Joins List of People Advising on Barack Obama's Post-Presidency Career
Eva Longoria is a part of Barack Obama's list of advisors after he leaves the U.S. Presidential office in January 2017.
The "Desperate Housewives" actress joins a group of other high-profile people, such as novelist Toni Morrison, writer Malcolm Gladwell, LinkedIn billionaire Reid Hoffman, hedge fund manager Marc Lasry, Sun Microsystems founder Vinod Kosla, and the First Lady Michelle Obama, The New York Times reported. The notable group has recently attended a midnight meeting at the White House to discuss Obama's post-presidency career plans.
Longoria, 40, is an important presence in Obama's career. She served as a co-chairman of his re-election campaign in 2012, and was an ardent activist for the Obama administration's immigration reform plans, The Hollywood Reporter noted.
According to The New York Times, Obama's post-presidential plan aims to have the "same fierce discipline and fund-raising ambition" that got him to the presidential seat in 2008. Obama's discussion with his advisors centers on raising $800 million to $1 billion for the construction of a "digital-first" presidential library equipped with the latest technology. They also plan to set up a foundation with worldwide benefits.
Obama's interest in the prospects of digital narratives was piqued after a 2012 screening of the film "Lincoln" at the White House in 2012, which was attended by director Steven Spielberg and actor Daniel Day Lewis. The news outlet wrote that Spielberg "held the president spellbound" when he discussed the significance of technology in telling stories.
Obama reportedly continued engaging himself in the topic, the most recent being with Spielberg and studio executive Jeffrey Katzenberg over dinner at a Beverly Hills Hotel in June. The president's advisors said that Spielberg is committed in helping Obama obtain a "narrative" after he leaves the office, The New York Times added.
Aside from these, officials from the West Wing said that Obama's post-presidency plans also include his signature issues, such as health care, economic inequality, and fighting climate change, The New York Times noted.
Barack Obama Picks Latin Tracks for His POTUS Playlist
Obama may have mingled with a lot of Latin musical artists, including Thalia, Marc Anthony, Gloria Estefan, and Aventura, but none of these singer's tracks are included in the POTUS' summer playlist.
According to Billboard, Obama has picked "Tengo un Trato" by Spanish rapper Mala Rodriguez and "La Salsa La Traigo Yo" from Colombian salsa band La Sonora Carruseles for his summer playlist on Spotify.
Rodriguez's "Tengo un Trato" came from her 2003 album, "La Niña Amor y Respeto," Billboard noted. La Sonora Carruseles, whose biggest hit is "Micaela," is currently established in Medellin Colombia.
