‘Heroes Reborn’ Cast, Trailer & Release Date: TV Show Designed as 'Heroes' Season 10! [Spoilers]
NBC's "Heroes" was one of the biggest hits on the network during its initial run. However, as the time passed by, the series' ratings began to drop, until eventually, the network had to cut the cord.
TV Line reported that at the Television Critics Association press tour, creator Tim Kring said about the series, "The biggest pitfall was always the amount of story that we had to tell. Our [episode] order was for 23 the first year, then 26 in the second year, 25 in the third year. We were facing a mathematical difficulty, an uphill battle."
However, "Heroes Reborn" will only span a total of 13 episodes, which the series creator said allows for a more "aggresive kind of storytelling."
Kring insisted that it will give the show and its viewers an "exhilarating" feeling. He added, "When you log onto this show for the very first time, you know that you're going to get an end, and it will be at that point in time."
As reported by Slash Film, Kring also mentioned that "Reborn" is not written as "Heroes Season 5", but rather, a more ambitious 10th season. He explained, "I know that sounds a little provocative but the point is, one of the things that we talked about at the very beginning in the writers room was how we wanted every single bit of the mythology to feel as though there was a continuum from the show."
Interestingly, Kring added that the show picks up five years later, "So, ergo, it would be five seasons later and this would be season 10. That was the thinking."
What the producers are aiming for is the thought that loyal viewers will find the series more of a continuation from the show that they loved, seeing some things that new viewers may not get. "The idea is that for the loyal viewer of the original series, we want to honor them and they are rewarded for having been loyal fans of the show by seeing all kinds of things inside the show that other people may not see." Kring told the press.
Among the returning cast members, as noted by Coming Soon are Jack Coleman as HRG, Jimmy Jean-Louis as The Haitian, Masi Oka as Hiro Nakamura, and Greg Grunberg as Matt Parkman.
Hayden Panettiere, who played the Cheerleader in the original series run, had her character confirmed dead and won't be returning to "Reborn." The show's original main villain, Zachary Quinto as Sylar, won't be back either, although his absence will not be addressed in the show.
A new roster of talents will also be appearing, including Zachary Levi, Robbie Kay, Danika Yarosh, and Ryan Guzman.
"Heroes Reborn" premieres September 24 at 8PM on NBC.
