Android M 5.2 Release Date in October? Download Roll-Out Expected in These Devices

Following Google's announcement of Android M, reports have indicated that it will be available in selected devices by the fourth quarter of the year.

For instance, the Ecumenical News noted that the Android 5.2 update will be made available to Nexus 5, Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 users by October. The outlet mentioned that these devices can experience new OS once the testing stage is finished.

"With the update, users will only be asked for permissions if the app is being accessed," added Ecumenical News.

Meanwhile, Android Geeks reported that major software updates are usually accompanied with the release of Nexus devices. In 2014, for example, Lollipop was announced and made available to the public along with the debut of the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9.

"Everyone expects Google to have a similar approach for the Android 5.2 M update: it was announced late May, it will get tested for several months, and it will most likely be released in October or November, alongside new Nexus hardware," dished the same report.

An earlier Ecumenical News article noted that though Android M still remains a big mystery to all, insiders have revealed that it is known as the "Macadamia Nut Cookie."

Developers, however, can already access Android M with Previews 1 and 2, available on the Nexus 5, Nexus 6 and Nexus 9.

The preview may also be downloaded on the Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Z1, Z1 Compact, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia E3 and M2, Xperia T2 Ultra and Xperia T3, Ecumenical News listed.

The operating system update is also believed to come with great features like Now on Tap, dubbed to be a "revamped version" of Google Now, new app permissions and Domain URLs.

According to Alphr, Android M has also made volume control options easier to comprehend. Also, a "Do Not Disturb" button has reportedly been included on its drop down menu.

"Tapping it opens up three options of 'Total silence,' 'Alarms only' and 'Priority only.' As before, you can turn these on for a set amount of time or indefinitely," the outlet explained.

Reportedly, there will also be a new App Tray which ditches the "four-columned horizontally-scrolling pages of apps." Users can now scroll vertically in their devices, armed with a search field located on the top.

To test the Android M update, Android Geeks suggested that it could be installed on the Nexus 5 using a tutorial on this link, while Nexus 6 users can learn how to do it with the help of this site.
