Houston Texans 'Hard Knocks' Premiere: Head Coach Bill O'Brien Tells Parents Not to Watch Show

Even though the entire football world tuned in for Tuesday's premiere of the reality show "Hard Knocks," Houston Texans head coach Bill O'Brien claimed asking his parents not to watch it.

As cited by Fox Sports, the coach admitted, "I called my parents and I asked them not to watch it. Especially my mother. She's Irish Catholic and she goes to Mass I think every day. She's not going to be very happy with me."

The coach also revealed that he is given the chance to preview every episode the morning before it airs to check if there will be scenes which "might give away a competitive advantage."

O'Brien noted that he saw a side of himself at work that he did not want his parents to see.

"It's always been important to me to just be myself. Whether you succeed or fail in life, at least you did it being yourself. You know I'm not trying to be somebody else, and that's what I try to do is just be myself. I'm not really concerned about cameras. But like I said, I may get a phone call tomorrow morning from my mother," he added.

Meanwhile, ESPN stressed on O'Brien's importance on this season of the reality show, noting that the cameras love him because of his "quick wit, fiery personality and occasional explosions."

On Tuesday's pilot episode, NFL.com said that it started with "a bang" specially in the person of O'Brien. The report observed the power of the head coach over his team and how he motivates them to work hard.

"Nobody talks about the Houston Texans because nobody thinks we're gonna win. And the disrespect that they show our quarterbacks? I'm tired of that, too... Enough is enough. Every player that is out there -- all 90 players -- are players that I want for the 2015 season. When you f------ guys show up to practice tomorrow, they better be ready to f------ go," O'Brien was quoted as saying.

Aside from the head coach, defensive end J.J. Watt is another main character in the series, with him being tagged as the "heart and soul" of the franchise.

According to Yahoo Sports, the episode showed how Watt works extremely hard for his career. He was seen practicing his catches late until about 9 p.m.

His "friendly" character was also not left out as the player was seen signing autographs even at 10 p.m.

"We've always known that J.J. Watt's a really nice guy, but HBO did a great job of putting that niceness front and center," noted Yahoo Sports.
