Joe Jackson's Vision Restored After Eye Artery Burst! His Latest Condition Here [Report]
Joe Jackson is reportedly in good condition after suffering a chain of medical emergencies.
The father of the late singer, Michael Jackson, had an artery burst behind his eye that caused temporary blindness and probably triggered a stroke, TMZ reported.
In addition to the stroke, Jackson sustained three heart attacks while he was confined at the Albert Einstein Hospital in São Paulo, Brazil. His heart stopped for 10 seconds before he was revived by the medical staff. The 87-year-old had to have a pacemaker implanted, and doctors are now waiting if the device will stabilize him, a separate report from TMZ added.
A representative of his family said that despite the health scare, Jackson is "aware how close to death he was" and is "grateful to be alive," adding that he's "cracking jokes in his hospital bed," TMZ wrote.
According to the news outlet, Jackson is in Brazil for his birthday party when the emergency occurred. TMZ's source claimed that his family is planning to transfer Jackson to the U.S. for further treatment. However, his health is too fragile at this point to travel.
The hospital issued a statement saying that Jackson was admitted on Sunday afternoon because of an irregular heartbeat, aside from waking up feeling dizzy and blind, Daily Mail wrote. The health scare made the talent manager miss his birthday party, which was scheduled on Saturday. Nevertheless, the event's organizer insisted that Jackson is not in grave danger.
"He is perfectly conscious, he is talking perfectly well without any problems, he is completely dynamic," said Nogueira Fresco, one of the organizers of the bash, as quoted by Daily Mail.
It's unknown whether the blindness will be temporary or permanent, the news outlet noted. Prior to the series of medical emergencies, Jackson was seen paying a visit to a soccer stadium, as well as dining with singer Angelina Stilitti at a local eatery in Sao Paulo.
Jackson previously suffered from minor strokes in the past, including one that took place in 2012, Daily Mail wrote. He also has diabetes. In July last year, Jackson celebrated his 86th birthday in Barcelona, Spain.
A source told Us Weekly that Jackson's daughter, Janet, postponed her upcoming Unbreakable World Tour to fly to Brazil to be with her ill father. The news outlet also said that Jackson's sons are on their way to the hospital he is confined in.
Jackson fathered 7 children, which consisted of Michael, Janet, Jackie, Jermaine, Latoya, Randy, and Tito, his official site listed. His 87th birthday bash was said to cost $200,000.
