Eva Longoria Slams Journalist for Accusing Her of Faking Poor Eyesight
Eva Longoria has fired back at the Sydney Morning Herald journalist who claimed that the actress is only pretending to wear prescription glasses to promote an eyewear brand.
On July 26, Jenna Clarke wrote a blog post on the news outlet claiming that the "Desperate Housewives" star is "a serial offender when it comes to selling out in a not so subtle way," adding that Longoria is "shameful shilling." This was in relation to Longoria's appearance at a promotional event at the Hotel Centennial in Woollahra, Australia, where she was photographed wearing a pair of thick rimmed glasses, Daily Mail reported.
The brunette beauty has been tapped as an ambassador and judge for 2015's Specsavers Spectacle Wearer of the Year, Daily Mail wrote. The role was previously held by actresses Sarah Michelle Gellar, Margot Robbie, and Christina Hendricks.
Defending herself, Longoria shared a lengthy post on WhoSay indicating that she has worn prescription glasses since 2013. She also tweeted a photo of herself wearing eyeglasses in separate occasions.
"If you had done your journalistic duty (it's actually not that hard, a more thorough Google job, or one phone call to my camp and they could have provided you any documentation) you would see that I have been wearing reading glasses since May 3, 2013," the 40-year-old actress wrote on WhoSay.
She continued, "As I have mentioned, I was getting my Master's Degree and realized the words were starting to blur and my eyes felt tired. I went in for an eye test (again on May 3, 2013) and the optometrist said I needed reading glasses and gave me a prescription from which I bought 5 pairs of glasses (again in 2013 and available for you to see). The reason your lazy journalist research of 'googling' didn't turn up more pictures of me on the 'red carpet' is because I don't need glasses to see far, only to read."
In her WhoSay post, Longoria mentioned that she wore reading glasses when she attended the Congress for Women and Small Business in 2013, as well as a press conference for the Dubai Film Festival last year.
"So next time you want to write an article calling someone 'shameful' why don't you do your research because that is your responsibility as a 'journalist' and the Sydney Morning Herald should hold you to that 'high' standard even though you are just the Lifestyle journalist. It sounds like maybe you need some glasses yourself," Longoria added on WhoSay.
The entrepreneur concluded her post on a happy note, promoting Specsaver's stylish eye products and giving special focus to the Collette Dinnigan collection of the brand.
In an interview with 96 FM Breakfast, Clarke said that the story was "blown out of proportion," and that she doesn't appreciate Longoria "sticking her 7mil followers" on her.
