'Doctor Strange' Movie Casting & Spoilers: Will Rachel McAdams Play the Female Lead? [Report]
Rachel McAdams confirms that she was offered the female lead in Marvel's superhero backstory film "Doctor Strange," which is part of the third phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Rumors about "The Notebook" star playing the female lead in the mystical Marvel film first surfaced in Heroic Hollywood earlier in July, where it was revealed that Scott Derrickson would be directing it based on Jon Sphaits' screenplay.
This, Slash Film sai, remained mere rumors after Marvel neither confirmed nor denied them.
But in a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, McAdams' herself confirmed that she was considering starring in the film alongside Benedict Cumberbatch who would play the titular hero.
According to the report, the actress was careful with her statement, saying, "It's still super-early days, and I don't know where that's gonna go, if it's gonna go anywhere at all."
The article said that though other actresses of similar league to her like Scarlett Johansson (who plays the Black Widow) and Natalie Portman (who plays Thor's significant other) had joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe train, McAdams is someone who should be taken differently.
While she may not be a "comic book snob," she still wishes to journey a road that was not prescribed by anyone but her.
"I try to shut out ideas about why you should do things," she told the LA Times, adding that she turns down offers because of her own insecurity more than any other reason.
"If I'm picky, it's for that reason. I want to be able to bring my best to the table. So if I'm not connecting to something, then I'm not gonna hold up my end of the bargain, and that's really embarrassing," she explained.
According to Slash Film, McAdams is speculated to play the role of one of Strange's students named Clea whoif indeed she accepts the offer.
The outlet described the character as "a woman who can compete with him on a mystical level."
McAdams is currently appearing in HBO's "True Detective" and is gracing theaters with her role in "Southpaw" alongside Jake Gyllenhaal.
"Doctor Strange" is due in theaters on November 4, 2016.
It will feature other stars such as Chiwetel Ejiofor, who is seen to play the antagonist, and Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One, also known as Sorcerer Supreme.
According to Cinema Blend, Swinton agreed to play either a male of female version of the character, something that can be expected from someone who is popular for being "chameleonic" in her roles.
