'Space Jam 2' Release Date Soon? LeBron James Signs Deal With Warner Bros - Plus Juicy Evidence
NBA superstar LeBron James is heading to Hollywood after Warner Bros. announced on Wednesday that it will be partnering with the Cleveland Cavaliers player in a deal which will include TV and film projects.
The partnership, according to USA Today, was done with James' company SpringHill Entertainment.
"LeBron James has one of the most powerful, well-known brands in the world. The combination of LeBron's global media presence and Warner Bros.' unmatched production and distribution expertise is a big win for fans everywhere," Warner Bros. chair Kevin Tsujihara said in a statement as quoted by USA Today.
The same report added that James was also thankful for the opportunity provided to him.
"Connecting with my fans and telling meaningful stories have always been my passion. In everything I've done, from Nike commercials to Uninterrupted and (Starz scripted comedy) Survivor's Remorse, it's always about connecting with people of all ages and providing unique content they can all enjoy," James said.
With this recent deal, Mashable opened up the possibility of James doing a Space Jam 2 since Warner Bros. was responsible for the first instalment of the movie in 1996 with NBA legend Michael Jordan and Looney Tunes characters like Tasmanian Devil and Bugs Bunny.
In the movie, Jordan was swayed to give up his baseball career to return to basketball, which ended up with him saving the cartoon characters from an evil park owner. This was believed to be the highest-grossing basketball movie of all time.
"It's possible the sequel just might bless us sooner than later," added Mashable.
Rumors of the movie turning into reality got stronger after Capital New York editor Alex Weprin mentioned in a tweet that Warner Bros. filed for Space Jam trademarks last June 8.
James has also reportedly expressed his willingness to be part of a project such as Space Jam.
"I've always loved Space Jam. It was one of my favorite movies growing up. If I have the opportunity, it will be great," James said as quoted by Time.
Time also reported that a sequel can also be expected with reports last February indicating that TV producer Charlie Ebersol would be working on Space Jam 2 with James as the main character.
For now, Mashable said the representatives of both Warner and James have not confirmed anything yet except the deal they made on Wednesday.
This Hollywood project was also claimed to have been offered to James because of his performance in the movie "Trainwreck" starring Amy Schumer.
Sydney Morning Herald said that a New Yorker even called James the funniest character in the movie.
