UFC's Nick Diaz to Spend Few Days in Jail for DUI Offense
For being arrested on a driving under the influence (DUI) violation last September, UFC fighter Nick Diaz will spend two days in jail and serve 3 years of probation.
TMZ said the 31-year-old fighter was arrested last September in California, where he was also apprehended for a similar offense a year before.
According to MMA Mania, aside from his DUI charge, Diaz was also booked for obstructing a police officer, destroying evidence and driving with a suspended license.
"Diaz was facing real jail time if convicted in both cases -- but struck a sweet plea deal with prosecutors in which he pleaded no contest to DUI with .08 or higher, and in exchange 3 charges were thrown out ... including the second DUI," reported TMZ.
The deal indicated that he will sleep for only two days in jail but will have to serve 3 years of informal probation and complete a DUI educational course.
The same report said the UFC star is also anticipated to surrender to the authorities and "knock out" his jail term during his next hearing, scheduled by the end of the month.
This recent brush with the law is an added burden to the UFC fighter, who is currently serving a temporary suspension given by the Nevada Athletic Commission. He tested positive for marijuana metabolites in a post fight check, after his UFC 183 bout with Anderson Silva, said Bloody Elbow.
It was noted in a Cage Potato report that will all the legal battles he will face, Diaz could not be seen fighting, though it is likely that he will go back to fighting after all these issues.
But Bleacher Report says there is no guarantee if he will return to the cage, especially after losing to Silva during his last fight.
"While the matchup of two fan favorites was an exciting slugfest that ended in a unanimous-decision win for Silva, both Diaz and Silva would fail drug tests surrounding the bout (Silva for steroids, Diaz for marijuana metabolites)," added the same report.
This is not the first time that Diaz failed a drug test as he has reportedly been suspended twice after his matches with Takanori Gomi and Carlos Condit for his open use of marijuana.
Because of his temporary suspension, the fighter is set to have a full disciplinary hearing in the coming months.
Before he slumped to this point in his career, Diaz was known to be a great MMA fighter, with 11 wins in a row from 2008 to 2011. However, he reportedly lost track -- not only of his career -- but also of his personal life, leading to where he is right now.
