Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs Andre Berto: Whose Corner Are You On? [Poll]
In what is dubbed as Floyd Mayweather's last fight, the undefeated American fighter is set to box against Andre Berto this coming September.
TMZ has received reports that the camps of the two fighters have already reached a deal, and that the fight will happen on September 12 in Las Vegas.
Speaking to TMZ, Haitian-American fighter Berto said he is happy to be given the opportunity to fight Mayweather.
"It's a pleasure and honor to be in this position and I'm looking forward to capitalizing on every moment of it," Berto added.
In a similar report by the Washington Post, Mayweather remains unbeaten ar 48-0 record while Berto has 33 wins to 3 losses.
The same report also said that Berto's name was among those previously being considered by Mayweather's camp. There is public opinion that Berto is an easier opponent for Mayweather to fight compared to Amir Khan, who really wanted to fight Mayweather.
Majority of boxing fans and viewers are not really familiar with Berto, but Heavy said he is best known for being the Interim WBA Welterweight Champion. His last match was reportedly in March when he won via TKO.
Berto was born and raised in Winter Haven, Florida, and is said to have gotten his boxing skills from his father who taught him how to fight.
Heavy added that 23 of his 30 wins were knockout victories. One of his most memorable fights was in 2011 when he won the welterweight belt from Jan Zaveck, who almost lost the sense of sight on his right eye during the fifth round of the match.
"Berto presents an interesting matchup for Floyd," Heavy reports. "Many heavy hitters have promised to damage Money Mayweather in the past, and all have left the ring the loser."
"Mayweather might be taking the fight knowing this, thinking he can outmaneuver the heavy-handed Berto."
The Washington Post report added that the fight between Mayweather and Berto could be a free fight aired by CBS, which could really amuse viewers.
The decision to offer the fight for free could have been due to the "disappointing" fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao last May, which was dubbed "The Fight of the Century," largely seen by critics as barely even close to that.
A separate Heavy report added that if the 38-year-old Mayweather will win this upcoming fight, he will tie the undefeated boxing record of Rocky Marciano at 49-0. Though he expressed that he will stop fighting after this match, the sporting world believes that he would want to have one more to create a world boxing record.
