'Suicide Squad' Movie Trailer Teases Joker, Harley Quinn & More Cast Members in Epic Screenplay [Watch]
DC's eccentric villains are coming to theaters.
Warner Bros. officially released the teaser trailer of the "Suicide Squad" at the San Diego Comic-Con, which created huge waves across social media in the wake of its leak online.
The "Suicide Squad," a report from The Verge revealed, is the second punch of the one-two combination from Warner and DC. following "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice," which will introduce the slowly-but-surely expanding the DC Cinematic Universe that would "spontaneously manifest" in 2016.
According to Variety, the first footages of the film made DC fans crave for more, especially after seeing Jared Leto's version of the Joker.
"Oh, I'm not gonna kill you. I'm just gonna hurt you really, really badly," the footage shows Leto's brutal Joker, complete with the signature Joker grimy grin in the flick due in theaters August 5, 2016.
Joining Leto in the gang of super villains are Will Smith as Deadshot, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn.
After the footage leak, there had been a steady stream of photos and clips which were unofficially released over the information super highway.
These unofficial releases from Saturday's eventful Comic-Con presentations made studios think twice about showing exclusive videos and footages of upcoming films.
In a statement, Warner Bros. marketing chief Sue Kroll said, "Today we will release the same footage that has been illegally circulating on the Web, in the form it was created and high quality with which it was intended to be enjoyed."
She further explained that though they intended to keep the footage exclusively for the eyes of Comic-Con attendees for the meantime, the studio do not want their masterpiece to be represented by poor quality footages that have been "stolen" from their presentation at the event.
According to Deadline, both Fox and Warner Bros. are calling out to outlets to stop posting the leaked footages of the Comic-Con-exclusive videos of the "Suicide Squad," as well as the Ryan Reynolds-starrer "Deadpool."
The report further speculated that there is a high probability that producers and film studios may reconsider sharing exclusive videos during the annual event, citing critically-acclaimed producer Quentin Tarantino as an example.
"If Tarantino - who early on scrapped this film after the first draft of the script for this film got leaked by agents of at least one of the small group of actors he shared the script with - sees a crappy transfer of his 70mm film dispersed on the web, why would he ever go to the trouble of unveiling footage again?" the report stated, referring to the film "The Hateful Eight."
