Miguel Says He's Not Friends With Frank Ocean: 'I Make Better Music'

Miguel has issued a statement backtracking on his criticism against Frank Ocean.

Miguel, whose real name is Miguel Jontel Pimentel, has shared an Instagram post clarifying his remarks against Ocean made during an interview with The Sunday Times, wherein he said, "To be completely honest -- and no disrespect to anyone -- I genuinely believe that I make better music [than Ocean], all the way around."

The recording artist lost a Grammy Award to Ocean in 2013, Billboard wrote. Miguel also spoke about the comparisons he is getting between his music, Ocean's, and The Weeknd's.

"It's interesting, but we'll see who's in it for the long haul. It's like a marathon, you know?" Miguel said, as quoted by The Sunday Times.

The comments Miguel made in the interview has gained backlash, prompting the singer to defend himself and take advantage of the situation to promote his upcoming album, "Wildheart."

"Yes, I am competitive, we ALL have to have a level of confidence and competitiveness to put ourselves on the line day in and day out. But I also believe there's room for all artists," the 29-year-old "Sure Thing" singer explained on the social media site. "I guess what I'm saying is, there's no need to compare apples to oranges, there's something out there for everyone. That's why I'm here and able to do what I do."

Miguel Dishes on 'Wildheart'

Miguel also said on Instagram that his "Wildheart" album is about "celebrating individuality." The record was released on June 26 and featured collaborations with Lenny Kravitz and Kurupt, Hiphop DX wrote. Miguel worked with German photographer Daniel Sannwald for the album's artwork, which was inspired by LSD.

"This time it was like I finally want to have an identity as a tastemaker, as someone who's ahead of the curve, someone who's intellectual, someone who's striving to push the boundaries, someone who's ever-growing and evolving, someone who's open-minded," Miguel said of "Wildheart" in an interview with Rolling Stone.

The album, which Miguel started working on in Jan. 2014, was described by the singer as "an ode to love of self...  [and] the ongoing infatuation with whatever you're f***ing into," Rolling Stone reported. "Wildheart" serves as the follow-up to 2012's "Kaleidoscope Dream."

Frank Ocean's New Record Nearing Release

Ocean, on the other hand, is also on the verge of releasing a brand-new album this month.

A separate report from Billboard said that Ocean, 27, revealed that the follow-up to his 2012 album, "channel ORANGE," will be unveiled in July along with a magazine titled "Boys Don't Cry."
