Dallas Mavericks in Hot Pursuit of Jeremy Lin? Mavs Discussing Sign-And-Trade With LA Lakers [Report]
Jeremy Lin may finally get the fresh start he seeks with the Dallas Mavericks looking for a sign-and-trade option to acquire him from the Los Angeles Lakers.
The 26 year-old point guard is leaving money on the table. Multiple teams have inquired for his services but he opted to play for the Dallas Mavericks.
The team presents the opportunity for him to resurrect his career and get his coveted starting role.
ESPN's Marc Stein reported Saturday that "the Dallas Mavericks are firmly in the mix to sign free-agent point guard Jeremy Lin, according to league sources."
Stein added that "Dallas has limited funds to offer, but sources told ESPN.com that Lin is giving the Mavericks strong consideration even though he can likely make more money elsewhere."
The Mavericks lost Rajon Rondo via free agency, Monta Ellis to the Indiana Pacers, and Tyson Chandler to the Phoenix Suns. They were able to immediately fill the void their former two starters left with former Los Angeles Clippers center DeAndre Jordan and Portland Trail Blazers guard Wesley Matthews.
Now, they are adding another marquee point guard to their backcourt in Lin, which already features J.J. Barea and Raymond Felton according to Yahoo Sports. Devin Harris seems like he is on his way out so it would be interesting to see who among the three will get the starting nod when the season begins.
Fortunately, Lin can play the shooting guard position, like when he played for the Houston Rockets while co-existing on the floor with Patrick Beverley. Laker's head coach Byron Scott also had Lin share minutes with rookie Jordan Clarkson in the starting line-up, as Kobe Bryant was out last season.
Jeremy Lin probably won't have a hard time blending in to the rotation, as his best friend Chandler Parsons and future Hall of Famer Dirk Nowitzki are there to guide him. Jeremy Lin had a rough time in Los Angeles, losing his starting role to Clarkson and constantly debating with coach Scott.
After the season, he expressed how he felt in his lone year with the Lakers as tiring. "I felt pretty burnt out coming out of this past season," Lin wrote in his website.
Will he be able to anchor the Mavericks offense effectively? Does he still have a bit of "Linsanity" left in him? Stay tuned.
