Angry Birds Go! News: App Release Date Here, Users Complain About In-Game Purchases
Angry Birds Go!, the new kart racing game starring the full roster of Angry Birds characters, is now available to download for free on Android and iOS products worldwide, but not everyone is thrilled with the new game. Some early user reviews have complained about the amount of in-game purchase prompts.
The game is available to download both at the Apple Store as well as the Google Play store for Android products. Both games have early user reviews of four out of five stars, however, several user reviews complain about the premium features and how many times players are asked if they want to buy items for the game. In addition, the game has a limited amount of tracks and characters available for users at launch.
Angry Birds Go! gives players the chance to race the birds in karts down several race tracks. However, many hallmarks of freemium games make their way into the game, and the results are mixed. Players have a limited number of tracks to play through, and limited number of characters to use. You can unlock new characters and vehicle upgrades, but you must wait a certain amount of time before you're able to play more races. When players are between races, ads for power-ups and special bonuses appear, trying to get players to purchase items using real-world money to improve their standings in the game. For example, a button that appears between races offers to permanently double the amount of coins a player earns in the game. Actually hitting the button reveals that the upgrade costs $6.99. Players are able to purchase in-game currency in packs ranging from $2.99 all the way to $99.99.
These types of ads and prompts have divided the fan base somewhat about the game, but besides these extras, the game appears to be fairly well put together. Though the freemium formula may not exactly work for a kart racer, the game is fun to play even if tracks are limited. It will be interesting to see if Angry Birds Go! is able to match the success of previous games in the franchise and continues the massive international success the brand has experienced.
