‘Maleficent’ Sequel Now Underway! Will Angelina Jolie Reprise Title Role?

Disney confirms that a sequel to the 2014 blockbuster hit "Maleficent" is underway though talks about Angelina Jolie's reprise have yet to happen, Deadline reported Monday.

Disney fans' favorite villain Maleficent is set to make her comeback in a sequel currently being written by "The Lion King" screenwriter Linda Woolverton, who was commissioned to piece together the first installment of the film.

According to Deadline, Disney and Woolverton is keeping the 40-year-old actress "in the loop" while the film is still in the drawing board. Nevertheless, they haven't confirmed yet whether she would be playing the villain-turned-heroine in the sequel.

In a report, E! Online explained that a sequel for the film seems to be impossible to produce without the award-winning actress, who played the title role in the first flick.

However, it is clear that Disney has yet to acquire a contract with the A-lister despite the fact that the script of "Maleficent 2" is being written in a way where she would be reappearing.

In the past, Jolie had refused to star in sequels to films she starred on including action-packed ones like "Salt" and "Wanted," which is why many are doubting that she would make an exception with the youth-oriented flick.

This leaves a question of what the actress has to say. USA Today puts an end to this question after a report published in its Entertainment section quoted the award-winning actress' answer on whether or not she is willing to do "some dreaded yoga and donning those horns again."

"Possibly. I don't know. I enjoyed it. I just feel like we did this one thoroughly and I don't think there'd be another. I feel like this is the one, if I was going to ever do a Disney one, this is the one I wanted to do. And I think we've done it well," she told the news bureau.

USA Today believes that it would all depend on how much Disney is willing to offer her to do another heart-melting installment of the film, saying: "Our advice? Make it rain, Disney. Make it rain."

This should not be a problem since Deadline noted how the "Sleeping Beauty" film reboot would be a Disney priority, given that it was able to gross almost $760 million from the international box office.

E! Online also believe that there is still hope especially after Jolie raved about her role months after the first movie was released.

"I loved being Maleficent. I was quite sad to put my staff down and put my horns away because somehow, she just lives in a different world," she told E! Online in a report from 2014.
