'Jurassic World' Review: Film Breaks Records With Over $200 Million Opening!
The "Jurassic World" dinosaurs present anything but extinct entertainment in the film industry as it charts an all-time-high box office record during its opening with more than $200 million on ticket sales.
The 2015 "Jurassic Park" sequel gained a hefty $204.6 million at the domestic box office this weekend which, according to Variety, would definitely inspire more Triceratops-filled sequels for this movie franchise.
The dinosaur-filled film recorded the second highest rank in the domestic box office chart in history, just a few hundred thousand bucks short from the record-holder "Marvel's Avengers."
Not only did the film gross a chart-topping domestic record, it has also broken through the worldwide box office charts with a staggering $511.8 million sales during its debut alone, ABC News reported citing the Associated Press.
The Variety revealed that the making of the film—made possible by the partnership of Legendary and Universal Pictures together with the helming expertise of Colin Trevorrow—costs about $150 million after they hired "Guardians of the Galaxy" star Chris Pratt who was deemed as the new addition to "an era of would-be leading men" in a separate report.
"He's the modern action hero. He's funny, he's charming, he's self-deprecating. I call him Jimmy Stewart in a leather vest. He just has the perfect sensibility for today's audiences," Rentrak senior media analyst, Paul Dergarabedian, told Variety.
Variety also believed that Universal made the right choice when they decided to hire Colin Trevorrow as the helmer of the sequel after the original "Jurassic Park" director Steven Spielberg declined to return to Isla Nublar.
Described as "a filmmaker on the rise, who could pay homage to Spielberg's creation while taking the series in a younger and vibrant direction," Trevorrow lived up to the film production company's expectations when it comes to creating a 14-year-overdue installment of the movie franchise.
"He has extraordinary energy and he had a vision from day one about what this film could be. His determination comes through," said Universal's president of domestic distribution Nick Carpou.
Aside from the director and lead star of the film, reports from Variety and the Associated Press as cited by ABC News also deem the film's format to have a huge impact in the gross sales of the film where majority of the moviegoers shelled out extra to see the film in 3D for the ultimate Jurassic experience.
"Jurassic World" is the newest addition to Universal's chart-topping lineup for 2015 which also includes "Fast and Furious 7" and "Fifty Shades of Grey."
