Iggy Azalea Racy Tweets Resurface! ‘Pretty Girls’ Rapper Targeting Mexicans & Asians?
Following the cancellation of her Pittsburgh Gay Pride event performance, Iggy Azalea once again came under fire for her racist remarks directed to Mexicans and Asians.
The Australian rapper's past tweets have since been deleted, but some screen shots of the statements remain on the Internet.
Fox News Latino posted screen captures of Azalea's racist tweets. One of them reads: "Is it wrong I feel happy to hear southern accents again & not mexican ones? F*ck it. I am."
In another tweet, she said that women in Los Angeles are skinny, except for Mexicans, who "got the box body on lock," Azalea wrote, as reported by Fox News Latino. Another post, this time taking a stab on Asians, reads: "This Asian lady on the plane tried to act like she didn't understand me I told her a** b*itch u gone know English today cause that's my seat!"
Azalea's withdrawal from the Pittsburgh event scheduled on June 13 was due to her anti-gay and racist remarks made on social media, USA Today reported. The outrage from advocacy groups directed at Azalea and the event's organizer, the Delta Foundation, said that the 25-year-old recording artist's statements "were inconsistent with values of acceptance," the news outlet added.
Since then, the "Fancy" rapper posted a statement on Twitter apologizing to those she offended for her past remarks. According to Azalea, she supports the LGBTIQA communities but admits that she thinks her appearance in Pittsburgh will divert from the true message of the event.
"I am a firm believer in equality," Azalea wrote on Twitter. "Unfortunately, in the past as a young person, I used words I should not have. The last thing I want if for something so carelessly said to be interpreted as reflective of my character."
She continued, "I meant no harm and deeply regret ever uttering those words. As an adult I would never use them because I understand they play a detrimental role in the fight for issues that I do truly believe in."
Pittsburgh's first gay elected official, City Council president Bruce Kraus, criticized Azalea, Mirror reported. Other LGBT groups also threatened to back out from the event if the rapper won't be dismissed. Prior to this, Azalea cancelled her "Great Escape" concert tour because of a "creative change of heart," the news outlet added.
Azalea is replaced by pop singer Nick Jonas in the Pittsburgh event, USA Today noted. The "Jealous" and "Chains" crooner has a gay following and plays a gay MMA fighter, Nate Julina, in DirecTV's "Kingdom."
"Having grown up in the theater and having made a lot of friends that were gay at an early age, it's really, I think, great exposure to that community and the importance ... as a heterosexual male speaking up and doing all I can to be of support," the 22-year-old former Jonas Brothers member said, as quoted by USA Today.
