Oculus Rift Market Version Revealed? What to Expect in Upcoming Press Conference

Oculus is about to unveil a huge announcement on June 11 prior to the E3 2015. A countdown on its official site was set up, which contains buried images that suspiciously resemble the final Oculus Rift together with a headset, an external camera, and a remote-like controller called "vrOS," The Verge reported.

Oculus co-founder Palmer Luckey confirmed that the images for the 3D virtual reality headset were legitimate, but not much has been said about the real consumer Rift version.

"This is an old placeholder concept image that we accidentally leaked. Everything in it is ancient, certainly nowhere close to final," Luckey wrote on Reddit. "Enjoy checking it out, at this point, but don't expect everything to carry through to the stream on the 11th."

There's a possibility that this is Oculus' way of downplaying the leaked designs of the Rift, but Luckey's statement checks out and can be justified. The Verge reported that one image suggests pairing the Rift with some outdated PC parts, going against the tech company's announcement regarding its high-end specifications. Some aspects of the device, however, matches up.

"The field of view is set to a placeholder, which is slightly odd given that it's consistently hovered around 100 degrees. The whole render looks a little flat compared to the promotional images we've seen," the news outlet explained.

VRFocus combined the images of the final Oculus Rift together. Check it out on their website.

The Verge noted that the leaked render featured a camera at the bottom, which, according to one Redditor, functions as a hand-tracking sensor rather than a simple camera. Basically, the device is a built-in version of the Leap Motion OSVR headplate.

The Simple Input Device (SID) said to come with the Oculus Rift looks like a small remote control with a trackpad, The Verge pointed out. It has volume controls and a Back button, with a black circle appearing to be a touch and clickable pad, Business Insider noted. This appearance resembles the Gear VR's integrated controls all jammed into a separate piece of hardware, The Verge added.

The leaked images also feature an overhead strap and the headphones that were launched with the Crescent Bay unit back in September 2014, VRFocus reported. Appearing at the top was the Oculus VR branding.

A price wasn't leaked along with the design render, although a partnership with NewEgg was indicated. Oculus previously stated that the consumer Rift and a PC capable of running it will cost under $1,500, The Verge wrote.
