Soccer Player Hope Solo Used Profane Language During 2014 Arrest [Report]
New details on the 2014 arrest of American soccer goalkeeper, Hope Solo, revealed that she used profane language when she talked with her arresting officers.
An ESPN report detailed that Solo was "combative" and "had to be forced to the ground" when she was being booked for her domestic violence charge.
The report claimed that she even uttered to one of his arresting officers, "You're such a b----. You're scared of me because you know that if the handcuffs were off, I'd kick your ass."
In describing her hostility towards the police, ESPN said the goalkeeper insulted the officers processing her arrest with her claiming that two of them were having sex while another was tagged a "14-year-old boy." She also ridiculed the income made by the police officers saying that her necklace was worth more than what they can make in a year.
These ugly details, according to ESPN, were recorded by the police and were stated in the sworn depositions, documents and other interviews on her alleged victims.
A similar USA Today report noted that Solo's case has already been dismissed on procedural grounds, but she has not yet been cleared as there is still an appeal made by the prosecutors with the Superior Court of Washington.
The new developments in the case are said to be controversies which will affect Solo's participation in the U.S. women's national soccer team and would lead the public to think that she can be a bad influence to her teammates.
However, this was denied by head coach Jill Ellis saying that Solo has been a "fantastic" player in the team.
"(The incident) was a long time ago. We've moved on. She's been a fantastic player and teammate. None of that has even resonated with us, and I'm sure some of the players aren't even aware of it," added Ellis.
The timing of the report's release could not be more apt as Time said that Solo is set to begin her Women's World Cup campaign with the U.S. team in Canada on Monday.
Time also detailed that Solo's half sister, Teresa Obert, claimed that the athlete had been drinking prior to her arrest which prompted her to punch her half sister several times on her face and to slam the head of Obert's 17-year-old son on the floor.
The goalie has repeatedly denied her involvement in the incident. She also received great support from her coach and teammates in the U.S. team.
"Hope's my teammate. We are creating a bubble and we want nothing to penetrate that bubble right now. All of our focus is on what we, individually, can do to help our team win games. That is our focus. And nothing else is going to get in the way of that," said Abby Wambach, according to LA Times.
