New 'Game of Thrones,' Borderlands Games Being Created by Telltale Games [Trailer]
Telltale Games has had a large amount of success with their episodic games based on "The Walking Dead" comic book series, and now the developer will be creating games based on two more beloved franchises.
As announced at the VGX Awards on Dec. 7, Telltale will transform Tales From the Borderlands based on Gearbox's Borderlands series as well as "Game of Thrones" the epic book series turned TV phenomenon into new video games. Both games have trailers available, which you can see below.
The "Game of Thrones" game is set to be released in 2014, but details about the game's story and characters have yet to be released. The trailer seems to confirm that the game will be set in Westeros, and the snowy setting makes it seem as though at least a portion of the game will be set in the North, perhaps in Winterfell or the area beyond the Wall. The game's official name is still unknown as well, so fans of the series will just have to wait and see what sort of adventure Telltale is preparing.
Tales From the Borderlands is also set for a 2014 release date. Made with original developer Gearbox serving as a consultant, Tales From the Borderlands will follow two characters who are trying to become Vault Hunters. These two characters will encounter some familiar faces, such as arms dealer Marcus and some new characters as well. At the end of the trailer a hologram of Handsome Jack appears, which may indicate that this game is a prequel to the events of Borderlands 2 or perhaps Handsome Jack was able to survive the events of that game somehow. It remains to be seen if Tales From the Borderlands ties into any future Borderlands games that Gearbox could be working on for the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.
It looks as though Telltale Games has quite the impressive slate of titles coming in 2014. In addition to Tales From the Borderlands and the untitled "Game of Thrones" game, Telltale is currently releasing episodes to The Wolf Among Us, which is based on the Fables comic book series. And on Dec. 17, Telltale will release the first episode of The Walking Dead: Season Two, which is the sequel to the critically-acclaimed first batch of episodes in the series.
