Moto X 3rd Generation Release Date: Micro-SD & Front LED Flash Included? Specs, Features & Price Rumors
Rumors still continue to surround the third generation version of the Moto X. We compiled the most recent speculations about the device's specs and features. Note that these are all unconfirmed yet and an official announcement from Motorola is yet to be had.
Specs & Features
We previously reported that the Moto X 3G will come in at 5-inch or 5.2-inch display. It is said to be powered by a hexa-core Snapdragon 808 chipset with 4 GB of RAM space. Gospel Herald claimed that it will have a 16 MP rear camera with optical image stabilization capable of recording in 1080p resolution.
Motorola, together with its partner Qualcomm, announced early this year that most of the tech giant's upcoming devices will be equipped by the latest Snapdragon 810 processor from Qualcomm, the mobile technology company's site said in a press release.
"The Snapdragon 810 processor will enable us to push the boundaries even further so we can continue delighting our customers with devices that give them new choices," Motorola's president Rick Osterloh said, as reported by Qualcomm's official page.
Gospel Herald noted that the handset will have Android 5.1.1 as its operating system. A 4G LTE capability is also rumored to be included in the smartphone.
STJS Gadgets published a photo featuring the Moto X 3G capable of 4K recording at 30 frames per second, 1080p recording at 60 and 120 frames per second, and 720p recording at 240 frames per second. The handset is also said to have a 5 MP front camera.
Autoo Mobile claimed that the Moto X 3G will run using a 3280mAh battery.
A report from motog3.com claimed the device will have a 16 GB internal memory space with a SD card slot, while CNET reported that the device won't come with a fingerprint scanner. Osterloh said at a press event near the Mobile World Congress trade show that "he wasn't a fan" of the trendy sensor.
The last time Motorola used fingerprint readers was in 2011 for the Motorola Atrix, Gospel Herald wrote.
The 2014 Moto X has a camera with a dual-LED ring flash. It's unknown whether this feature will also be included in the Moto X 3G.
Price & Release Date
As we previously reported, the Moto X 3G's price could follow the introductory cost of Moto X 2014 when it was released. The 16GB variant could cost around $425 while the 32GB will be around $475.
According to Ubergizmo, Osterloh hinted at the Moto X 3G's release date. In response to a customer's query, Osterloh said that the tech company is aiming to follow their annual cycle of releasing their products, which includes the aforementioned handset.
Since its predecessor was released sometime around August and September 2014, it's expected that the Moto X 3G will also be unveiled in the same timeline this year.
