'WWE 2K16' PS4 Xbox One PC Release Date: Story Mode Update, Latest Roster & Gameplay Rumors
Scheduled to be released on Oct. 27, 2015 for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, "WWE 2K16" will reportedly feature a new story mode focused on Stone Cold Steve Austin.
WhatCulture reported that that the 2K Showcase Mode will be all about Austin, WWE's biggest Attitude Era star. Wrestler and commentator Jerry Lawler said during the Memphis Cerrito Live Radio show that he and WWE Hall of Fame commentator Jim Ross have been recording vocals for that feature.
"We're already working on that. A lot of people ask about my old broadcast partner. They're having in this year's game, a big Stone Cold Steve Austin Attitude Era section and they have me and J.R. back together again in the studio doing voice-overs for that," he said.
This is good news for WWE fans because Austin is considered "the biggest star ever." WhatCulture noted that this recent development makes people wonder if the wrestler will once again fight at WrestleMania 32 next year.
Aside from Austin, iDigitalTimes mentioned that a number of WWE stars have already confirmed their participation in the game, including: Sasha Banks, Rosa Mendes and Zack Ryder. These wrestlers noted that they have been scanned and will be part of the 2K Games' roster.
A listing on the online retailer GameStop's page indicated that the game will be available for $59.99. A description on the listing revealed various changes and developments for the game.
"The authority in WWE video games returns with 'WWE 2K16!' The newest addition to the flagship WWE franchise will deliver authentic, high-powered and hard-hitting action, including fan-favorite features and new WWE Superstars, Divas and Legends, gameplay innovations, presentation updates and more," read the game description on GameStop.
According to Beta Releases, WWE 2K is now working on the flagship WWE product. After the Oct. 27 release in the US, the game will be available three days later in Europe.
Gospel Herald noted that "WWE 2K16" promises to be a lot better than its predecessor, adding that Ross will likely lend his voice in support of the upcoming game that is also believed to feature "historical matches and content."
Ross was not included in the previous game installment to the disappointment of many fans. This year could certainly be different as the renowned commentator himself hinted his inclusion in the game.
"In talks with 2K Sports to do some work on their next video game for WWE. Love the process and from what I'm told the new game will be extremely provocative and certainly has my attention already. Stay tuned," Ross wrote on his official blog.
The upcoming release is also believed to feature a new body mechanics system, such that players will properly react to stimuli like being struck in different body parts.
"Players can also use a variety of weapons including tables, folding chairs, kendo sticks, ladders and sledge hammers. There may also be a stamina system that determines whether players can complete a move for their favorite wrestler," noted Gospel Herald.
