'Jurassic World' Trailer, Release Date & Spoilers: Director Colin Trevorrow Shares Details on New Dinosaurs
The deadly 50-foot long, 18-foot high dinosaur which will be featured in the upcoming film "Jurassic World" is probably one of the most highly anticipated aspects of the franchise. Director Colin Trevorrow spoke to Entertainment Weekly and revealed some details about the new dinosaur called "Indominus Rex" and how it differs from the other huge creatures roaming the fictional theme park.
According to the 38-year-old filmmaker, viewers will see a more vicious and murderous dinosaur, which is exactly what the audience wants to witness when they go see the movie.
"The Indominus was meant to embody our worst tendencies," Trevorrow told Entertainment Weekly. "We're surrounded by wonder and yet we want more. And we want it bigger, faster, louder, better. And in the world of the movie the animal is designed based on a series of corporate focus groups. Like in the same way a lot of movies are."
As for how the creature saw the light of day, Trevorrow said that "it's a hybrid of specific dinosaurs with great movie names like the Giganotosaurus and Majungasaurus, as well as other animals that exist in the world today," Entertainment Weekly reported. Original "Jurassic Park" character Dr. Wu (B.D. Wong) combined certain traits of these animals in order to create the Indominus.
When asked what sets the Indominus Rex apart from other dinosaurs in "Jurassic World," Trevorrow said the creature shares similarities with other famous pop culture villains in the way they are all artificially made.
"It's a classic villain to me because it's comparatively synthetic to the other dinosaurs," the director told Entertainment Weekly. "You know, Frankenstein and Darth Vader and even Captain Hook, there are parts to them that aren't entirely organic. Indominus sort of makes the dinosaurs feel like real animals. It's an abomination that must be exterminated."
Trevorrow also said that he was not bothered when details about the Indominus Rex leaked to the public through merchandising. The toys depicting the dinosaur have been made almost a year in advance, the news outlet wrote. For Trevorrow, what's more important is the part when the viewers will see the creature wreaking havoc on the big screen.
"At this point I realize that, just like the Indominus Rex itself, we have not been able to keep it in a cage," he explained in the interview with Entertainment Weekly. "We failed. People have seen the animal. And to me, it's not that I don't wish we could've kept it a secret. Sure I do. But to me the exciting part of this movie is what happens and how it happens."
"Jurassic World" stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Vincent D'Onofrio, Brian Tee, Ty Simpkins, Nick Robinson, and Irrfan Khan, Indiewire listed.
The film is set for release in theaters on June 12. Watch the trailer below.
