'Agent Carter' Season 2 Episode 1 Release Date, Cast & Spoilers: Hayley Atwell Spills Details on New Season
Hayley Atwell, the lead star of ABC's "Agent Carter," has teased details about the upcoming second season of the Marvel series.
At Comicpalooza's event in Houston on May 22, the 33-year-old actress discussed how her character, Peggy Carter, will change in Season 2.
"What was very exciting is, in a second season she's grieved over Steve and she's now about to embark on a new adventure in her life," Atwell shared, as quoted by Digital Spy. "So she's in a much better place, so in terms of where she is it's going to be a lot lighter for her, there's going to be more humour to her and more warmth. She's not struggling so much with her identity."
Atwell also revealed that Season 2 will have more episodes than its predecessor, which only aired eight during its run.
"I also think the show runners really want to move it forward. So it's going to be set in LA and with 10 episodes it's going to be a very glamorous, dark world of 1940s Los Angeles," she explained, as reported by Digital Spy.

As reported by ScreenCrush, the official synopsis for the second season reads: "Dedicated to the fight against new atomic age threats in the wake of World War II, Peggy must now journey from New York City to Los Angeles for her most dangerous assignment yet. But even as she discovers new friends, a new home - and perhaps even a new love - she's about to find out that the bright lights of the post-war Hollywood mask a more sinister threat to everyone she is sworn to protect."
Season 1's ender featured Peggy and her allies defeating the controlling Dr. Faustus/Fennhoff (Ralph Brown). However, the finale's closing moments saw the manipulator in prison meeting the equally evil HYDRA scientist Dr. Zola, who is responsible for turning Captain America's (Chris Evans) former partner, Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes, into a human weapon for terrorists, Variety wrote.
Peggy also got some closure in Season 1's finale, saying goodbye to her lost love by destroying the last remaining vial of Steve Rogers' blood "to prevent it from once again falling into the wrong hands," the news outlet noted.
Showrunner Tara Butters revealed in an interview with Variey about how Peggy's character will be explored in Season 2.
"We've talked about exploring more of Peggy's past; how did she end up working for the SSR, what drove her to that? Just exploring Peggy - that's the great thing about television, it allows you to explore these characters more in-depth than you get in a movie," Butters told Variety.
"Agent Carter" will return for its second season in 2016 on ABC, ScreenCrush reported. Only Atwell was confirmed to reprise her role. It's still unconfirmed whether her co-stars, which consists of James D'Arcy (Jarvis), Dominic Cooper (Howard Stark), Chad Michael Murray (Jack Thompson), Enver Gjokaj (Daniel Sousa), and Lyndsy Fonseca (Angie Martinelli), will be back for Season 2.
