Samsung Galaxy S7 Release Date & Price Tipped! Specs & Features Indicate a Beast Flagship [Rumors]
Samsung has confirmed that global shipments of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge surpassed 10 million units a month following their release, Korean news outlet Yonhap reported. The outlet claimed speaking to a high-ranking Samsung official, who apparently told about the figure.
Followers would remember that official Galaxy S6 / S6 Edge sales kicked off on April 10. However, Samsung has not clarified when the 10 million sales mark was actually reached, Yonhap said.
The outlet compares the current flagship to its Galaxy S5 and Galaxy S4 predecessors, both of which are reported to sell over 10 million units in less than a month.
In a recent article, Forbes' Gordon Kelly called this figure "desperately disappointing," considering that Samsung had estimated S6 sales of 70 million units for 2015. Regardless of when the 10 million mark was met, the Korean tech giant has only seven months left to accomplish the remainder of its goal.
This translates to average sales of 8.6 million units per month, Kelly noted. The author is convinced that such rate would be "entirely unrealistic" to maintain.
In addition, he suggested that Samsung should launch a single Galaxy S7 instead, sporting Edge display and removable aluminum back cover.
At this point, the Galaxy S7 is purported for announcement in the next Mobile World Congress. According to 3G.co.uk, the 2016 MWC will run between Feb. 22 and Feb. 25, making a March launch possible.
Interestingly, another side of the rumor mill points to a much earlier unveiling. Apparently, the device is also believed to arrive this December, the Venture Capital Post said.
This claim puts us to a distance of about seven months, and by this time, Samsung must have met its envisioned 70 million shipments for the Galaxy S6 models already.
If not in December, the VC Post expects an appearance beginning January 2016.
The Galaxy S7 is speculated to have a foldable display, 6 GB of RAM, a 30 MP camera and a retina scanner, 3G.co.uk wrote.
Yet perhaps the most interesting rumor about the Galaxy S7 is its screen resolution, which looks at the possibility of adopting 4K technology. This translates to 3840 x 2160 pixels.
Christian Today cited word about the inclusion of a cyclone HMP technology chipset, which renders the Galaxy S7 "twice as fast" as the Galaxy S6. Reportedly, this spec complements the rumored 4K display.
Other features expected in the Galaxy S7 include Android M support and a revamped TouchWiz skin, Trusted Reviews said.
While this is best taken with salt, the Galaxy S7 is pegged to sell for $999, appearing slightly less-expensive than the Galaxy Note 5's expected price.
