'Pitch Perfect 2' Actress Rebel Wilson True Age Finally Revealed!
It has been established that a woman should never reveal her age, but when you're a Hollywood celebrity, you can't exactly hide those numbers for long -- specially when you're "Pitch Perfect 2" actress Rebel Wilson, you steal the spotlight on box office hits.
She may be playing the role of a college senior in her latest aca-tastic film, and she pulled it off well. However, Hollywood Life noted that the Australian Securities and Investment Commission showed the actress was actually born in 1980, a claim apparently confirmed by the Sydney Morning Herald. Not only that, it also showed that her real name is Melanie Elizabeth Bownds, another lie they caught her in, considering that she already claimed these as just names she went by when she was in school.
Celebrities can play the roles of students in their mid- to late-twenties and although it seems likely that producers are pushing it, nobody really bats an eyelash. After all, Hollywood is known for casting older girls to play high school- and college-age roles. Remember, even "Pretty Little Liars" actress Troian Bellisario pulled off playing a high school girl (and she's turning 30).
So why is it that when records showed and confirmed that the "Pitch Perfect 2" comedian lied about her age, people were outraged?
As E! News noted, nobody can blame Wilson, considering that Hollywood execs aren't really known to make it easy for older women "to feel comfortable" with their age. According to the outlet, celebrities from Nicki Minaj to Jennifer Lopez to Jessica Chastain and Sandra Bullock are known to have fibbed about their number, with Bullock saying:
"After a while, you have no idea how old you are because you've lied so many times...I always said I would never lie, but one time, when I didn't it worked against me. So I figure you just keep them guessing."
Following the controversey, the ever-hilarious Wilson took the issue to Twitter, telling her fans, "OMG I'm actually a 100 year old mermaid formerly known as 'CC Chalice'... thanks shady Australian press for your tall poppy syndrome x."
"Okay but all jokes aside now...my real name is Fat Patricia x," Wilson added.
Whether she's 29 or 35 or a hundred-year-old mermaid, Rebel / Melanie Elizabeth / Fat Patricia is now a certified star, so whatever her age or name is, there's really nothing that her haters can do -- she's still a glittering, "Pitch Perfect" star.
Besides, do any of these age fibs actually matter in Hollywood? What do you think about friends / co-workers lying about their age? Sound off in the comments section!
