‘The Flash' & 'Supergirl' TV Crossover Spinoff Possible? Variety Cover Puts Them Together
What happens when producers of a successful superhero TV series get another gig from the same comic book universe?
When the Greg Berlanti produced DC Comic "Arrow" starring Stephen Amell got a spinoff in the form of Grant Gustin's "The Flash," fans were treated with several crossovers over the season, not to mention, numerous references as the story wore on.
Now helming yet another superhero series in the form of "Supergirl" with Melissa Benoist and a special cover on Variety featuring the newest super hero series lead and Gustin, are more crossovers going to be expected?
According to The Hollywood Reporter, it has already been written in Berlanti's deal that "Supergirl" will cross over with either "The Flash" or "Arrow" as the producer is very involved in several show in DC Entertainment's TV productions.
He has developed and produced "Arrow" and "The Flash" and is set to co-write the first episode of "Supergirl" which means that he definitely can get a crossover done if he wanted to do so, Cinema Blend explained.
Besides, there have already been rumors of "Supergirl" being in the same universe as the first two.
With that in mind, Variety has already gotten outtakes of Gustin and Benoist in their superhero persona, so there should be at least an episode that they're crossing over, right?
Unfortunately, the answer to that is... No. At least, not for now. Berlanti told Variety, "The network has said publicly at this point they're going to keep her to themselves. I always approach the shows as a fan first, so I would love to see (a crossover). I think in success, all things are possible. But there's a lot that would have to happen before everybody might say yes to that."
Supergirl is out of the loop with Oliver and Barry at the moment, but there is another show that you can expect to see crossing over at "Arrow" and "The Flash," mostly because they are definitely the spinoff series that fans have been waiting for.
"Legends of Tomorrow" cast members hail from the two DC shows after all: Atom (Brandon Routh) and Canary (Caity Lotz) from "Arrow" and Firestorm (Victor Garber and Robbie Amell), Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) and Heatwave (Dominic Purcell) from "The Flash."
"Supergirl" fans can still have their fingers crossed for a crossover, but for now, let's enjoy the fact that we'll be seeing more of the "Legends of Tomorrow" characters back on their original series from time to time.
