'Arrow' Season 4 Episode 1 Air Date & Plot Spoilers: What to Expect In New Season [News & Predictions]
The Season 3 finale of The CW's "Arrow" saw our titular character, Stephen Amell's Oliver Queen, abandoning his heroic identity and his friends with Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) after killing Ra's al Ghul (Matt Nable).
This leaves the superhero in a compromising position, especially that he left his team stuck in a cell in Nanda Parbat to head off to Starling City to unleash a deadly virus on the inhabitants. Showrunner Marc Guggenheim admitted that Oliver's actions will have consequences when the series returns for its fourth season, adding that the finale episode is indeed a cliffhanger.
"We've been seeing for the last five episodes that Oliver is acting on his own, and there are definitely gonna be some serious consequences to that, both in terms of his relationships and in terms of his emotional journey in the episode," Guggenheim told Variety.
He continued, "It's a very tricky spot that Oliver's put himself in, and I hope the audience gets the sense that there's a good explanation as to why Oliver placed himself in this position. Someone will basically ask him, 'how do you expect to undo all the damage you did once all's said and done?' and Oliver has a pretty definitive answer to that question."
John Diggle (David Ramsey) will pick up after Oliver's crime fighting in Starling City when Season 4 opens, The Hollywood Reporter wrote. As for the new villain in the upcoming episodes, fans should expect to see more of H.I.V.E. and the mysterious Damien Darhk, who was previously hinted a few times in the series. The villain is a former member of the League of Assassins and is an enemy of Ra.
The Hollywood Reporter also noted that Ra's return on "Arrow" should not be disregarded yet, especially that Guggenheim previously stated that creators are already discussing how to bring back the character on the show, presumably in flashback form.
Despite blowing himself up, Ray (Brandon Routh) is very much alive and that explosion in the season finale "was him working on shrinking himself down to the size of an Atom," the news outlet added. The character will make an appearance in the upcoming "Arrow/The Flash" spinoff and on DC's "Legends of Tomorrow."
Thea (Willa Holland) is also ready to be a superhero after taking on the Arsenal costume of Colton Haynes' Roy. She called herself as Red Arrow at first, but Oliver thinks that Speedy is a more apt name. Speedy is Green Arrow's sidekick in the DC original comics, The Hollywood Reported noted.
Fans should also expect how being the new leader of the League of Assassins will play out on John Barrowman's Malcolm Merlyn. As for whether he will use his power for good or evil, there's a huge chance that he will choose the latter.
The third season of "Arrow" will premiere on The CW on Wednesday, October 7th, 2015 at 8 PM, Den of Geek reported.
