UFC Confirms Death of Lightweight Fighter Corey Hill at 36
In a statement, the UFC confirmed the death of veteran fighter Corey Hill due to a serious case of pneumonia only to find out hours later that he is still alive and currently battling his sickness as confirmed by his wife.
The earlier statement of the UFC said that Hill passed away because of complications from his condition along other news and sources confirming the death of the 36-year-old MMA star, as per Fox Sports.
"The UFC family mourns the tragic loss of Corey Hill, who passed away on May 14 due to complications from pneumonia at the age of 36. Fans will remember Corey for his time as a lightweight competitor who fought multiple times for the organization in 2008 and was a contestant on The Ultimate Fighter season 5. UFC sends its condolences to the family and friends of Corey Hill," wrote UFC in a statement following the rumored death of Hill.
Lauran Hill, however, clarified in the Fox Sports report that the veteran fighter is still very much alive and breathing in the hospital. The family reportedly did not reveal further details on his current condition.
"My husband is a strong fighter. Please everyone pray for him," Hill's wife was quoted in the E Online report.
The same article noted that the fighter's friend, Jennifer Swift, has been updating the public about Hill's condition on her Twitter page by sharing various information on his health.
She disclosed that the UFC fighter is battling fungal pneumonia and that his lung already collapsed as a result.
Swift also posted a tweet confirming Hill's demise "#CoreyHill a fighter to the end. May you rest in peace."
She, however, retracted her statements after Hill's wife issued a clarification with the tweets: "#CoreyHill Has come back!!! Keep those prayers coming they are working!!! OMG I'm so happy to hear this!!! This guy is a WARRIOR!!" and "#CoreyHill still hanging on! Family members claimed he passed but his wife says no & we need prayers!"
Swift definitely earned the ire of netizens whom she fooled into believing that Hill already passed away.
The fighter, according to Fox Sports, was originally a member of "The Ultimate Fighter" Season 5 cast along with Nate Diaz, Joe Lauzon and Gray Maynard.
He had a great UFC stint with a 1-2 record prior to suffering a broken leg during his fight with Dale Harrt in 2008. He was able to recover from the injury and fought again after a year but he was never seen in another fight since.
Well wishes are now pouring in for Hill and his family and the public is certainly hoping that he will be able to recover from this battle and prove to the entire world that he is indeed a true fighter.
